Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dustine Nzoungou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dustine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I got into Makeup, it simply out of curiosity. Growing up I wasn’t really permitted to wear makeup as much, however as I got older I wanted to learn how to do my own, after much trial and error I started to become comfortable as time went on. The moment I knew that I wanted to pursue this artistic path, would be the day I was just playing around and did makeup for a neighbor of mine. The look and feeling that she had at end of her makeup session was priceless. The fact that she complimented my work and mentioned how she really loved her makeup; also stating that it made her feel like a new person again. In that very moment, I knew that it was something that I wanted to further pursue. The fact that I was able to help someone regain their confidence and feel good about themselves was indeed very rewarding. Since then, I started taking my craft seriously by watching a series of YouTube Tutorials as well as taking courses and obtaining certifications.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who don’t know me, my name is Dustine, founder of TSpiceMakeup Studio. I am originally from South Florida. I first got into the Makeup Artistry/Cosmetics industry officially after taking a Makeup course to receive an actual certification a few years ago. I provide Professional Makeup Services for several different occasions which include: Photoshoots, Weddings, Birthdays, Cosplay/Halloween, Stage Performances & other Special Events, The number one thing that would set me apart from others would most likely be the fact that I am constantly trying to step out of comfort zone, evolve and master my craft, as I do not wish for my Makeup Artistry to be stuck in a box. I am mostly proud of the amount of faithful clients that are constantly showing support and allowing me the opportunity to continuously perfect my craft.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist would be the appreciation you receive from self-expression through my craft. My clients all range from different ethnicities and ages, across the board, they’ll commonly express how great they feel after getting out my chair and taking a look at their makeup. As women make up a good majority of my clientele, I thought it was important to contribute to their confidence. Being a woman, sometimes you could lose yourself in so many roles. When I have a client, I make sure that they feel seen and pampered which happens to flow and reflect through my craft. Because I mean all women love to feel like a Beauty Queen.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Lateral thinking- thinking outside the box is one of the things you must do often as a creative. Being a creative, there are times when things do not go as planned, however thinking outside the box is kind of second nature to us as we are always looking for different ways to get to our vision as that happens to be the bigger picture. Along with lateral thinking, trusting the process is also very important. While creating there are always steps that we must take in order to reach our definition of the perfect vision in our minds, no matter what the craft is. It’s all apart of the process, it’s not about how things are looking at the moment while taking each step, but it’s more so about the outcome, the reward-which is subjective of course.
