We recently connected with Dustin Hall and have shared our conversation below.
Dustin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
I started my journey in July 2016 with the bypass at 534lbs at the recommendation of my doctor. After getting some mobility, I started slow on exercise like walking a now go 6 days a week. My diet looked like keto but I found a balance with things I enjoy and being at a calorie deficiency. I’ve lost and gained weight my whole life because of food addiction. This go around I focused on the mental health and have been able to reach my goal and maintain. I’ve lost a total of 320lbs and currently sit at 12% body fat. Losing it was tough but maintaining is the battle.

Dustin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, I’m Dusty—and I’m living proof that transformation is possible when you choose to rewrite your story, one honest step at a time.
I’ve lost over 300 pounds, but what changed me more than the weight loss was everything I had to face beyond the scale. My journey started as a personal battle with obesity, insecurity, and self-worth. But over time, that battle turned into a mission: to help others realize they’re not broken—they’re just buried underneath years of survival mode, misinformation, and self-doubt.
Now, I create content and tools to help people on their own weight loss and health journeys. From raw daily insights and honest storytelling to educational ebooks, motivational posts, and training plans—I give people more than just tips; I give them a real-life roadmap. I also partner with brands like Hone Health and Legion Athletics to bring science-backed solutions and high-quality products to the people who need them most.
What sets me apart? I’ve been in the trenches. I’ve lived the fight with food, body image, shame, and health—not from a podium, but from a broken place I had to rebuild day by day. My story is rooted in faith, mental health, family, and relentless resilience. I’m not trying to be a fitness influencer—I’m a guide, a brother in the fight, and a voice reminding people that they matter before they hit their goals.
I’m most proud of the community that’s formed around this journey—people who feel seen, supported, and inspired to take their next step, whatever it is. Whether it’s someone lacing up their shoes for their first walk or preparing for skin removal surgery, I’m right there with them, sharing my own ups and downs.
If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s this: You don’t need to wait until you’re “there” to start loving yourself. Your story is powerful, even in the messy middle—and I’m here to help you tell it with strength, grace, and real change.
Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life wasn’t just about business—it was about identity.
I had already lost over 200 pounds, and from the outside, people saw progress and success. But internally, I was still carrying the emotional weight I’d built up over years of struggle. I realized that losing weight wasn’t the finish line—it was the beginning of deeper work I hadn’t expected: confronting my self-worth, healing my mental health, and redefining what “success” really meant.
That realization forced a major pivot. I shifted from chasing a number on the scale to building a sustainable, purpose-driven life. I stopped hiding behind “before and after” pictures and started telling the real story—the in-between, the setbacks, the hard conversations. That’s when everything changed.
I took that personal pivot and turned it into a public mission. I started creating content that focused on mental health just as much as physical transformation. I leaned into partnerships with companies aligned with holistic health. I launched ebooks and training plans, not just to sell something—but to give people the tools I wish I had when I started.
Pivoting from transformation to truth is what built the community I have now. And honestly, it’s what gave me peace. Because now, I’m not just sharing a story—I’m helping others write theirs.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the clearest moments of resilience in my journey came after I lost 300 pounds—something most would consider the “happy ending.” But the truth? That’s when the real emotional battle began.
Even after all that weight loss, I still couldn’t stand the reflection in the mirror. The excess skin was a constant reminder of the old me, and I felt like I was stuck in a body that didn’t match the work I’d put in. I had done everything “right”—ate clean, trained hard, stayed consistent—but still felt invisible in my own skin. It was emotionally brutal.
That’s when I had to dig deeper. I couldn’t white-knuckle my way through it—I had to face the internal war with self-image, identity, and shame. I started therapy. I prayed more. I had tough conversations with myself. Eventually, I made the decision to undergo skin removal surgery—a painful but powerful step that was just as much for my mind as it was for my body.
Healing wasn’t linear. The recovery was tough. But every step of the way, I kept showing up—for myself, for my family, for the people who were watching my journey and finding hope in it.
Resilience isn’t about pushing through like a machine—it’s about choosing to keep going even when you’re broken, scared, or unsure. I’ve learned that scars, whether emotional or physical, don’t disqualify you. They’re proof that you survived—and that you’re still in the fight.
