We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dustin Grimes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dustin, thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
It’s amazing how my very first client came about—it’s a perfect example of how life comes full circle! Years ago, I sold a “Garden of the Gods” painting to an art collector, and she continued following my artistic journey on Facebook. Fast forward to when I launched my detailing business, she saw my posts and immediately thought of her husband, who just happened to need my services! She connected the dots and reached out, and that’s how I landed my first client in this new venture. It’s incredible how past passions and connections can spark new opportunities; the world feels much smaller when you realize how relationships and creative journeys are all intertwined!

River City Mobile Detailing was founded out of a passion for helping people take pride in their vehicles and providing high-quality, convenient service to customers throughout Central Arkansas. As the owner and operator, my journey began with a love for cars and a fascination with the detailing process—taking something ordinary and restoring it to its absolute best condition.
My Background & Why I Started
Growing up in Arkansas, I spent a lot of time around vehicles, which became both a hobby and later a professional calling. I recognized that many busy people in Central Arkansas wanted the benefits of a clean, protected vehicle but simply didn’t have the time or access to do it properly. That’s what inspired me to start River City Mobile Detailing: to bring high-level detailing service directly to the client’s location, saving them time while delivering outstanding results.

River City Mobile Detailing provides a range of services including complete interior and exterior details, paint correction, ceramic coatings, headlight restoration, and specialty large vehicle/RV cleaning.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media through one simple principle — consistency.
You’d be surprised how much business can come just from showing up consistently online.
Before launching River City Mobile Detail, I sold cars for a few months, and that experience taught me a lot about exposure and engagement. I learned how vital it is to stay visible in your community — not just by word of mouth, but by being active online and connecting with people daily.
For anyone just starting to build their presence on social media, I always share three key pieces of advice:
1) Be yourself and stay passionate.
Authenticity attracts the right people. Build your brand around something you love, something that genuinely serves others. When you do that, you’ll naturally connect with clients who value your work and you’ll repel the ones who aren’t a good fit.
2) Consistency is everything.
If you want people to recognize your brand, you have to show up — even when you don’t feel like it. Post consistently and focus on adding value to your audience. Don’t just tell them what you want them to know; show them how your work can improve their lives. People always want to know, “What’s in it for me?”
3) Tune out the negativity.
Along your journey, you’ll meet both encouragers and critics. Never let negative voices throw you off your mission. When you attract haters, it usually means you’re doing something right. Stay positive, stay focused, and sharpen the tools in your craft daily.
