We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dulce Felix . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dulce below.
Alright, Dulce thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If I could start over I would participate in more vendor events and markets . I feel markets are a great way to learn and amazing way to get to know people . This would have helped tremendously.
Dulce , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my small business after experiencing loss . It was the most difficult situation I have ever had to over come . I got into making things to help me cope and help me keep going and it did . I create pieces to help uplift me and change the energy in a room . I make sun catchers to uplift myself and share this with the world hoping it can help them too . In some situations I do Custom orders to help my customers remember loved ones . I also will upcycle items to help prevent waste . I also do jewelry for people to express themselves. Every project is unique in its own way . My hope is for people to see my story and see that sometimes you have to find what takes your mind off things . Do a little more of that to help you through hard times . Get inspired to learn a new craft or start something new . Search until you feel right and that’s how you will know you are in the right place .
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started I was so excited to join stores . I joined a couple and quickly learned how different it truly was . My pivot was when I realized I would do better at markets selling my own product than sending my product in a store . It was not the outcome I was expecting. I thought all would do well . My customers would tell me they enjoyed to see me out and converse with me . Some would even tell me they enjoyed shopping with me rather than at a store . It was then that I compared sales and what my customers would tell me that I decided to turn around and leave the stores . Never did I think this would be the outcome but it worked out . Stores can sale many products but the brand stands out more when the creator is present is what I learned . Nobody will present your brand like you can .
How did you build your audience on social media?
I feel being very active and posting does help build an audience on social media . Some of us small business owners will share each others accounts on our social media platforms and it helps . What I think helps the most is doing your events and getting your name out with the public . Market yourself as much as possible . Wear your brand . Talk about your brand . Share as much as you can .Be wonderful to your customers be honest . If your customers talk and share about you that will help tremendously.
