Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dudley Salmon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dudley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned what I’m able to do now by following through with my passions. I carved out the ton necessary to improve my skills on my instruments, as well as the techniques necessary for producing music although I had some formal training I would have benefited from more, especially when it comes to music production. This possibly would have saved me some time and frustration. I believe learning the piano has been the most essential for me. It has battered me on stage as well as in the studio. I think the only obstacle keeping me from learning more, is the cost of formal education.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my journey towards a music career once I started writing my first lyrics in middle school and high school. I knew then that this is something I love to do. As time progressed I learned more about playing music, writing music and producing music. I was able to record and release a few projects and it helped me find other performance opportunities such as opening for acclaimed artists. I think that my background in jazz and ability to play so many instruments along with my writing had helped me open many doors.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
First and foremost, people need to find opportunities to pay artists and musicians. Like any other job, people do not take it serious enough without proper compensation. The other thing society can do is to advocate for originality. There are far too many great talents, feel the need to play other peoples music besides their own and it is mostly because of societal standards.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’ve built up my social media audience by being authentic and having a standard for quality with my content. I often meet new people and fans at performances and other places. The more important part is keeping them a tuned to what is going on in my musical journey. Most of what I share is about what I do on stage and in the studio. Because majority of the people who follow me do so because they enjoy my talents, I make sure to continue to share that with them.
