We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Drew Waters a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Drew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
We came up with a name for our business after careful thought of what we wanted to accomplish in the industry. Argentum is a Latin word used to describe the purest form of silver. In our industry the phrase silver screen is spoken and that’s what we want to do get back to the silver screen with good storytelling. So Argentum Entertainment was born. Argentum ‘s motto is we don’t do gratuitous object above Content. We just do good storytelling..

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I was a late bloomer in the entertainment industry. I actually didn’t get started until I was 30. After high school I join the military. From there I received an opportunity to travel the world as a model and that experience lead me down the road of my first commercial in Tokyo, Japan. I knew after I left Tokyo I loved the entertainment industry I just wasn’t sure if I could do it :-). I came back to Texas started opening up businesses and one August year. I turned 30 look in the mirror and decide to take a chance on myself and I’ve never looked back. The shy kid from Orange Texas put his head down look at the entertainment industry as a business focused and started booking rules. If I would’ve never came out of my chi insecure shell, I would’ve not join the military and took the opportunity to travel that brought me to the opportunity Iim in today. Go chase the opportunities.

Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
I sold my first retail business at age 27. I was approached by my competitors that wanted to buy me out, and I felt the business is worth more than they were offering. So I decided to wait I continue to build relationships within that industry. One of the relationships I built came to me one day and asked me if I was interested in selling. He caught me at the right time because I was and he made me the offer. I thought the business was worth. If you’re going to take the time to put in the effort to grow something respect the value of it. Never sell you or the business short out of desperation or fear. Always trust and what you build and never stop building relationships.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I grew up a shy, insecure, dyslexic, ADHD human child. It was always hard for me to ask for help. So early in life, I put it in my head that I never would. It made life hard and it took me a while to learn that we are program to help when asked. Don’t be afraid of weakness or failures. Because not knowing how to do something and asking for help is not weakness it is strength.
