We were lucky to catch up with Drew Root recently and have shared our conversation below.
Drew, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
With being a paranormal enthusiast and investigator. When going into a building with a large group of strangers the very first questions are, “hello?” “who’s here”? “How old are you”? The standard questions are great, but if you step back and think is this how I talk to strangers?? No. So I like to consider where I’m at for a location and just elevate the questions relating to the history of the location. So for example, if I am staying in a hotel, I might ask “do you have any rooms open”? “Can you tell me the room number where I can stay”? Just stepped out of the box with the questions and it works for me, personally!
Drew, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I began watching the classic ghost hunting shows, “ghost hunters” “ghost adventures” “taps” all the originals. I was hooked and wanted to know why I’ve never had an experience. I started looking more into it when a friend asked me to go on a private tour at Eloise Asylum in Michigan. I couldn’t make it through the night I felt so sick. Like suddenly extremely nauseous and faint. Completely fine when I left. The curiosity of how strange that was I had to learn even more. So after speaking with a few friends I decided to create the group Paranormal Roots. I decided to add two other wonderful women to my team as part of my vision to stick with all female for every aspect of this group! There is Kristina Salinas, who is the observant one of the group and always brings beef jerky to investigations! Kinedy Bouse is our busy bee! She is always busy creating our graphic designs, writing books and takes trips all over the United States! Then myself, Drew Root and I am the easiest to scare for sure! I jump at every little thing but still go off by myself to explore! It’s like riding a roller coaster, scary, but still enjoying the thrill! Both ladies are near and dear to me and we create a well rounded group! We have a podcast on YouTube we have taken a small break from due to scheduling and being in my final class for my Bachelors in nursing! We are on Instagram, Facebook and soon to be X. 2024 has a lot of events planned!!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We are still very new to the public and are always trying to learn what works as a group. Technology and filming is not our best task, which we are working on finding a female videographer to join our group that is ok going on investigations! It’s definitely not an easy task! But staying focused and consistent is key! Keep it interesting, honest, funny, and light! It’s also most important to stay connected to the people that support you. If it’s one person or 10 million, they are all equally amazing people that gave a chance to express ourselves!
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met Kristina through one of our favorite investigator groups, Project Fear when it was back in the Destination Fear days. We both were going solo to the Michigan Paracon in Sault Ste. Marie. We messaged each other and booked our Airbnb then went on an investigation together right before that and clicked immediately and have been best friends since then! Kinedy was in the same group and we had talked to her a few times on Facebook groups but had never met her until that same Mi Paracon. We ran right up to her and scared her by yelling “oh my gosh Kinedy HIII”! The look on her face was priceless and we all just clicked together so nicely!
