Drew & Jessica, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Our mission: 5th & Barber will provide a unique styling experience where we will gain customers’ trust with unparalleled services. Our goal is that 5th & Barber will be a destination that invests in the community we serve & the entrepreneurs we develop.

Our vision is to help develop barbers & stylists into business owners, if that is their aspiration. During COVID, we had the opportunity to purchase the business. We decided to do it so that the team could remain employed and continue to build their businesses. When we re-opened the shop, we came up with a new brand and a new marketing strategy to help scale the barbers’ businesses. Helping barbers achieve their individual goals in a team environment is extremely satisfying.

Drew & Jessica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We strive to be experience focused. We want customers to have an experience, not just come get a haircut.

The name 5th & Barber came from our original location on 5th Avenue in Franklin, TN.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Barbers can be transient and move from shop to shop. We certainly have barbers that have moved on from us for various reasons. Often, the client will follow them but we have had many that come back because they miss the experience at 5th & Barber.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

Our environment is unique because it is a group of independent contractors working as the 5th & Barber team. Moving locations was a critical decision to retain barber & clients. Doing so has elevated their experience. Managing the team and maintaining high morale comes from transparent communication and frequently engaging them to see what they need.
