Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Drew Isabell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Drew, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero is my grandmother! My grandmother, was one of the most influential people in my life. She was a Wife, Mother of 5 (3 daughters & 2 sons), grandmother and a role model to so many. Growing up without a father figure and a Mother who was such a hard worker. I grew up in my grandmothers house. She taught me many things over the 23 years of my life that she was alive. From how to walk, dress, play sports, laugh, not take life so serious and so much more. Before she passed I had been really excited to start my own business and break the traditional trend of getting a career and going to find a job working for someone else. She had been nothing but supportive my whole life and told me that as long as I have a passion for what I am doing that I will go far. Before she passed the last conversation I can remember having was with her telling me to remember people don’t invest in your company, they invest in you! So remember to always be yourself and remember what your grandmother taught you. “Kocham cię!” ( I love you in polish) shortly after her passing in 2016 my business Black Sh33p 3ntertainment LLC was created and I haven’t looked back sense. Always keeping her in mind I have been able to successfully grow my Djing company and help create beautiful moments for clients to remember for a life time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, my name is Drew Isabell and I also go by the stage name of Dj Halfbr33d. I received this name in 2014 in a good friend of mines garage over a game of euchre. We were brainstorming ideas for dj names and out cane Dj Halfbr33d. Which fits perfect because I am mixed. I am currently 30 years old and married to my heaven sent angel of a wife Chanel Isabell. I’ve been Djing since 2012! I have always loved music and even use to play the drums back in the day. I’ve always felt connected to the raw emotion behind the masterpiece of a song. Such an amazing thing created to express one’s emotions and being able to connect to so many people. Music can be so powerful and moving that it truly has always fascinated me.
In 2012 I was in Cancun Mexico on spring break for my first and final year of college. While there I had the blessing to speak with a few djs. One in particular, Dj Black Out. Coincidentally enough, he was from the metro Detroit area like myself. After picking his brain for a couple days she basically gave me the 101 tutorial on how to get started in the Dj business. From there the rest is history! I went home in a couple months later after putting thought and time into getting enough money to buy my first mixer and speakers. I did it for a couple house parties as well as a high school basketball game for my old high school, LCN. While there a rival school asked me to DJ for them. That turned into getting offered to do my first graduation party, next a prom. Which prompted me to buy professional speakers, and upgrade my gear. Which finally lead to me Dj, my first wedding and I haven’t looked back sense.
I am the CEO and Founder of Black Sh33p 3ntertainment LLc. Which is a licensed and insured professional Djing company. Coming soon I will be adding photography, videography and photo booths options. I currently dj for all occasions including but not limited to school event, fitness facilities , specializing in Weddings & Bars. With all my own equipment I offer top of the line entertainment with professional industry standard equipment.Including, uplights, advance dance floor lighting, cold spark sparklers, speakers, wireless microphones, Sony A7iii mirror less camera, studio lighting and more.
What sets me apart from the rest of the industry professionals is that I am not here to compete. I take an unorthodox approach with my clients. First and foremost I get to know my clients as if they are family as opposed to treating them like a client and or a price tag. Secondly I am not the right fit for everyone but with that being said I try my best to map out your dream event and do my best to not only make it come true but go above and beyond to exceed expectations. I am not just your average push to play, Spotify playlist dj. I pride myself with my ability to read the crowd and mix/ transition from every hand picked song accordingly. From keeping the crowd engaged to getting on the dance floor. As well I don’t rely on your typical top 40’s, and line dances to do so.
For all my potential engaged couples. I take pride in my ability to problem solve and to be prepared as possible to make sure you are able to be present in the moment on your wedding day. I have worked in the service industry my whole life, including banquet halls. So with this knowledge of being around weddings I am able to know how to coordinate with all vendors the day of to make sure your big day runs seamlessly.
Here at Black Sh33p 3ntertainment LLC, we are the Black Sh33p of the industry and look forward to making your event one to remember and to gain a friend. One hello and song at a time.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
It was 2 days before a wedding I had for a bride and groom that had hired me after seeing me dj a family member of theirs wedding the year before. I was admitted into the hospital at 3 AM with stomach pains and kidney pains after a weight lifting incident. When finally getting home at 10 AM I called the bride and then in tears explain the situation. Bless her beautiful soul for not only being such an amazing person but worrying about me and my health over her big day. Although I was able to find a potential back up for the day of I woke up that morning took some ibuprofen had some help from my family members for set up And push through the pain. No one, but the bride and groom were the wiser, but I am so blessed to be able to say that I not only made it to their wedding, but everyone had a great time and when the wedding was over the tea was spilled to the family, and nothing but love was shown. Reminded me of why I put my blood sweat and tears into my business. It’s because of the moments like that I am able create for people.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth and social medias have been the best source for me of the years I have been in the industry. Nothing beats people seeing you perform on person and getting to know the real you.
