Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dread Headd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dread, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My best friend, she taught me to never give up when things get hard. When I lost her, I lost myself and hit rock bottom, but I wouldn’t change a thing. If I could rewind, I would do it all over again. She was, and still is my motivation to keep making new music, to keep getting up every day, to keep going, and to keep doing shows. Half my catalog right now is songs I created because of her, or I made for her. She taught me, when I feel like giving up, hit the studio. She taught me, when life get harder, grind harder. She taught me to put my pain in my music. She taught me loyalty, friendship, soul mates, and love. Camm will always be my hero, she was the life of the party. She helped me turn my life around and kept me motivated. Camm was the person that everybody loved, very caring, real, and genuine! The one in a million types of people for sure. My best friend carried me thru my journey, so I continue to keep her name alive by my hashtags, songs, clothes, my room, social media, etc. It’s crazy, when we were kids, we use to rap “Look at Me Now,” with Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes, and Lil Wayne. The only part we really cared about was Busta Rhymes verse because it was the fastest! She was so goofy and fun to be around, never thought when we were kids playing around rapping, that I would be actually rapping as a career. We would’ve most definitely had an album or two together! Camryn T. C. will forever be my hero!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Destiny C. Cunningham, better known as Dread Headd, was born on November 3, 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dread Headd started creating music as a stress reliever; going through hard times and struggles, music was her therapy. She started taking music seriously as a career in 2019 after making a freestyle to a G Herbo instrumental. She did the freestyle on Facebook Live, and her friends suggested that she release the song. That motivated her to create the album “Destined” & include the freestyle in the album. “Destined” is Dread Headd’s first album, released on October 14, 2019. She started going to the studio back-to-back releasing singles, such as “Dread Headd – No Capp,” “Dread Headd – LLMBF,” “Dread Headd – Miss My Dawg,” “Dread Headd – Slide,” and more! She is currently working on her second album, “Destined 2 Be Great.” Dread Headd makes songs that she created due to her pain. She also makes heartfelt and relatable songs, the type of music that will put you in an emotional state.
Dread Headd is very talented, she is a producer as well and provides recording time, mixing/mastering, and beats. She also provides collabs, such as features, promo, and more! Dread Headd is currently located in Cincinnati, OH but she travels worldwide when it comes to her brand and craft!
The main reason why Dread Headd is different from others is her dedication! She has been thru so much in life and never gave up. She had so many reasons to give up but kept fighting!
Turning her life around and getting out of the streets is what she is most proud of! That’s her biggest accomplishment because she was able to turn something negative into something positive! She created her own studio, record label, and business. She did a complete 360 with her life and she is working on going back to school.
She wants to motivate people to believe in themselves because anything is possible with God and dedication.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My energy when I perform on stage! I gained so much attention by how hype I perform and how much I shake my hair. Most shows, people in the crowd scream “shake them dreads,” or “it’s Dread!” I scream “it’s Dread” so much when I perform, that fans yell it at me when they see!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When someone suggested to drink/smoke/pop pills etc., to “loosen up” before performing. At the time it made sense, you’re thinking you might be shy because it’s a lot of people in the crowd or think you are going to perform better. Everyone is different, but I know that lesson I had to unlearn fast because it wasn’t helping me grow, it was holding me back! I figured out that I perform better sober. Everything is clear, I have more energy and my voice sounds better, I’m so glad I switched it up! I told myself to not drink or smoke the day of my shows.
One of my recent shows my voice went out on the last word. I don’t think anyone noticed besides the judge, but that was my lesson from God basically saying stay sober because I have bigger and better opportunities on the way. I make sure to exercise every day and take care of myself so I can perform to the best of my ability!
