We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Drea Penndragon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Drea below.
Drea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Inaktha Arts started when I was able to claw my way back from being homeless, and found myself in Topeka, KS with the opportunity to take care of a small disabled kitten with many special needs. Knowing my love of resin work and my goal of making my own silicone molds, I decided to open Inaktha Arts to support the veterinary bills for little Hercules. Thus far my Etsy shop has allowed for me to take on a total of 6 disabled kitties that would have otherwise been put down, and rescue a big goofy disabled dog.
As I expand my shop and my abilities further and further, I’ve started to donate more and more of both my money and my time to various animal charities locally, including Saving Death Row Dogs here in Topeka, Kansas.
This also allows me to donate half of my profits from the LGBTQ+ line to the Human Rights Campaign, knowing I will still having profits from making cosplay horns, molds for cosplay horns, pagan molds, etc.
Drea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Drea Penndragon, and I’m happily the sole owner and maker behind Inaktha Arts. A proud pet owner, LGBTQ+ supporter and ally, and animal advocate.
I’ve spent many years perfecting my resin work, and have graduated to a very classy line of LGBTQ+ jewelry that one can wear with subtlety.
In 2021 I was finally able to add silicone molds to my line up and have perfected the art of purely clear molds that are perfect for any resin work, even UV Resin.
It all started just because I adore crafting … I adore playing with things that I can create and make from. If there is anything that any client can dream of that can be created in resin, I can make it for you. I sculpt the original in clay, get the proper texture, the right feel to it, get the gloss effect just how you want it, and then cast it to the mold for you. From there it goes into resin or you can buy the mold and make it yourself.
With me, the custom possibilities are endless and I am ENDLESSLY proud of that.
The day I met Raven Pagan, who would grow to become like a little sister to me, is the day the cosplay horns became a standard in my world and are now a standard in my shop – and it’s now my goal to see people wearing resin horns as the norm in this world.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Every single sale on Etsy or via private sell (Facebook or email or TikTok) gets messages from me all the way through the process. I let them know when I start their order, when it’s done and when it’s shipped. They know all of it. If it’s a custom order, I’m talking to them all the way through. We discuss every detail of what they are dreaming of, so that I can make sure to make their dream come true when I sculpt it.
Once they Receive their order, I make sure they are happy with their custom order and if there are changes that need to be made. There is NO part of the process where I let it drop or ignore any part of it.
Every single client has my 100% attention, every single time!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I once lost everything – literally everything. I traveled the country with only one bag and a netbook. I struggled for 5 years, alone as a woman, homeless. I was attacked, beaten, robbed, and much worse. But I survived it all. I knew in my heart that I deserved better in life. My father had just died, but I could still hear his voice in my mind, “You are not what happens to you. What happens to you and around you does not become who you are. Your beautiful soul will always remain untouched.”
So every day, I knew I had to stay strong. I lived by his words to me as a child and made sure I knew that I was worth more than my circumstances. I spent most of my time in public libraries. I finally got a break and an old friend drove across the country to get me and bring me to her home in Kansas once she realized what had happened to me.
So if anyone out there needs to remember my father’s words please do … none of us should carry the weight of what happens to us. We are all still our own beautiful souls.
