We were lucky to catch up with Dre Plummer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dre, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’ve been doing music over the past 2 years, I’ve released a couple of singles and a 7 song EP, but the most meaningful project I’ve done must be the last album I wrote and produced. I decided to write this album about my personal experience as a black latino that left everything he had in his home country to move to the U.S. in search of the american dream. I worked on it for 2 years and it’s been such an emotional rollercoaster. I’ts so meaningful to me because while producing and writing the songs on the album, I couldn’t help but feel emotional because of all the good and bad experiences I went through living in this country.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name’s Andre Plummer, but I go by my artist name which is Dre Plummer, I’m 22 years old, I was born in a beautiful country in Central America called Honduras, and I’ve always had a special relation with music, I started playing piano and guitar when I was 11 years old, but I decided to make music as a living when I was 19 years old. I learned to produce music and I’ve worked with a lot of artirsts from Honduras, Miami and Utah. I mostly proud of what I have accomplished so far with music, I have learned so much about it and it’s been such a blessing because thanks to it I’ve met so many incredible artists and human beings, and just working with them and being able to help them as much as I can really makes me happy. The main thing I really want to do is help those upcoming and independet artists who don’t know where to start with music. I myself was in that same situation and wished that someone taught me all the things I know now and my goal is to create a music label that helps those new artists get started, guide them and help them achieve their own goals.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, and my goal is to help those who where in the same situation as I was when I began with music, I felt lost, unmotivated and with a negative mindset because I didn’t know what to do. So that’s why I want to do my best tohelping those independent and upcoming artists to achieve their hopes and dreams, because by accomplishing theirs, I will be fulfilling mine too
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Soccer has been part of my family since I was born, my dad was a professional soccer player, my older brother was a professional soccer player so I had the pressure to become one too. And I really tried to go pro but when I was 19 years old, and kept seeing that soccer wasn’t making me happy at all I decided to stop. After this I found out that music was a huge part of my day to day rutine, and thought “what if I made a song?”, I gathered all the materials I needed to build myself a minimalistic music studio and released my first single called “Love Sonata”. After realizing how much I loved doing it and how I worked on it with such passion, I knew that I wanted to dedicate my life to music.
