We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dray Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dray thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
When starting a business, it’s common for many entrepreneurs to begin on their own and then gradually expand their team as the business grows. When the company begin it started with me and my business partner. The process of finding the right team members can be a crucial step. Entrepreneurs can use various methods to recruit team members, the main source we utilized was Indeed.com.
The process of recruiting is very time consuming searching through candidates resumes, interviewing, onboarding, and training. If I was starting today I would Choose to set up at hiring events.

Dray, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Dray Thomas, I’ve been in the solar industry for a few years now, recently 2 years ago I started my own solar company which now operates as a full EPC dealer. We offer residential and commercial financing and provide Installation services as well. The company is now operating in 6 states, with our main office located here in Dallas, Texas. We provide energy solutions to homeowners and business owners to help save tons on rising energy rates while also playing a key role in helping our environment.
What sets us apart from many other solar companies is our personal connections to our clients and team members, as owners we are very personable and hands on throughout the company and we continue to provide a wonderful experience before every deal is sold and after every installation is completed. For me I’m mostly proud to be able to service our community, provide opportunities, and take care of our employees and their families.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Lead by Example set the tone for your team by demonstrating the work ethic, attitude, and values you expect from them. Your behavior and attitude can greatly influence the morale of your team. Organize team-building activities to foster positive relationships and collaboration among team members. These can be both in and outside the workplace.
