We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dray LaBorde a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dray, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Learning my craft has been an enriching journey, characterized by countless hours of dedication, hard work, and growth. Whether it’s always being in the lab studying my craft, or perfecting my technique. each endeavor has taught me the value of patience and persistence. Through the twists and turns, but with each twist, I uncovered new insights and refined my abilities. The thrill of seeing my progress, from clumsy beginner to confident EMCEE!!!, is a source of immense satisfaction. In the pursuit of my craft, I’ve come to understand that true mastery is not just about skill but also about passion, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
His journey of being an EMCEE began by performing at small venues, open mic nights, and local events, gradually gaining experience and exposure. Through hard work, dedication, and a deep passion for the craft, He started to refine his style, to continue to secure opportunities to perform at larger events and collaborate. Draythadrummer’s journey embodies this classic narrative of persistence, talent, and a love for music and people that propels him to success in the competitive world of EMCEEing.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I remember the time when I didn’t have a car and I had my first opportunity to emcee. I found out the bus schedule got on it walked a block or two and was able to make it to the event in time. After that moment I wanted to emcee more so I decided to find ways to keep emceeing. Over time I began to study the craft and fell in love.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The fact that I made one person smile. Everyone is going through something in life. My mission on stage is to help someone feel better about their day or themselves. Knowing that my words have power and can change the atmosphere of a room, I make sure to have nothing but positive vibes because I never know what a person is going through, and I want to do my best to help them feel better. What would our world look like if we all took the time to support one another? I personally feel like it would be a better place.
