We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Drake Mailhot a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Drake, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?
For Ten years i invested in my company and failed until i adjusted my thinking and gave a little extra effort(even though i was giving my all) started being more efficient and focused on the goal and target client that would appreciate the value i bring, in designing by bringing products to the table no other person is bringing. I’ve worked through ptsd as a child and studied what other people i look up have done. I work with 5 family members and its been challenging but it was me who needed to change things to create less work more money and a enjoyable work place. This is my year to take care of my family through creativity and probability. While also creating a experience like no other for my clients.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I from south Georgia grew up on a horse farm and my dad was the owner of a large landscaping company and i started at a young age, my mom was an artist and my grandmother an interior decorator. Over time i loved the ascetics of homes and everything outdoors. I’m a dream a visionary and do not let any thing stop me by having strong core values and work ethics. I’m also a husband and dad and I big goals in my business but family first.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I cry as I write this because i started this company with my brother and dad and we lost him about 2 years in due to cancer. I do this for him, and refuse to quit, refuse to stop dreaming, and refuse to let other opinions steer the ship. I have always focused on giving back even when i couldn’t afford to give back because of my strong faith background. I do this to inspire maybe people who have lost hope or want to quit.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
discipline in knowing my numbers and mapping out every job finically. Wealth is not for materialistic things but for me to help those left fortunate. I do like nice things but i don’t need them and i understand ego will kill your wallet and business.
