We recently connected with Dra. Dórily Esquilin and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Dra. Dórily thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?

Dr. Dórily Esquilin and Dr. Alexander Rúa are the CEOs of DLC Consultants Inc, a nonprofit organization that focuses on educating, mentoring, and coaching married couples. Our main goal is to provide married couples and those getting married with information, tools, and resources to ensure their individual and personal stability as well as their marital and relational growth using biblical principles.

During the past few years, as speakers, we have witnessed the need and barriers couples experience while seeking to develop stable and happy marriages. This need embarked Alex and I to develop DLC Consultants Inc to provide married and pre-marital couples with a strong biblical foundation and the application of practical tools to embark on their journey to a happy relationship. Our latest accomplishment has been the publishing of our book: ¡Un día a la vez! Retoma el norte de tu matrimonio (One day at a time! Retake the north of your marriage)

We currently offer pre-marital and marriage coaching. We also conduct conferences for married couples, and those who are currently engaged to be married. We are the hosts of the Facebook program “Mentoría Matrimonial 101 con Alex y Dorily” (Marriage Mentoring 101 with Alex and Dórily) on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month at 7:30 pm (EST). Alex and I consider ourselves eternal learners! We learn to serve!

Dra. Dórily , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

What is special about DLC Consultants Inc and “Mentoría Matrimonial 101 con Alex y Dórily” or (Marriage Mentoring 101 with Alex and Dorily) is the real-life approach we provide to our audience. The tools and resources we offer are geared to present everyday life situations and the respective lessons to be learnt. These tools are meant to confront the individual, to move them forward from theory to action, and to ensure its daily application to the individuals’ life, while providing an environment of safety and growth in their marital journey.

We provide tools in a way that our clients can interact with and easily apply in their own environment without having to recreate the wheel. We offer practical ways for the development of emotional connection, the respect of the individual roles, the understanding of one another and the development of effective communication skills that encourages relationship building and structure within the marriage. We are very proud of the connections we have established with the community we serve. Our success has been achieved by the grace of God and our commitment, passion, honesty, and servanthood approach from a learner’s perspective versus a teachers’ perspective. We are committed to serve with excellence!

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

The cofounder of DLC Consultants Inc and Mentoría Matrimonial 101 con Alex y Dórily, is my husband Alexander, since 2015. We met in August 2014, talked for the first time in October, went on our first date in November, got engaged in December and married in July 2015. Yes, you can say that it was a match made in heaven and orchestrated here on earth. After three years of marriage, we began to be invited as speakers for married couples. It is then that we decided to gain greater knowledge, tools, and resources by completing certifications and academic degrees to better serve others. First, we became certified as Marriage Coaches through InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, then, we were certified as pre-marital coaches to fully gain not only the tools through our own experiences, but through the teachings of those who have walk in the “shoes” of marriage life for a long period of time. We also accomplished a Doctoral degree in Chaplaincy and are currently seeking to complete a Doctoral degree in Ministerial Theological Studies and Biblical Interpretation. One of the most fulfilling experiences, it’s to not only work side by side with your business partner, but to work with a business partner who is also your husband and friend.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

The main component that has helped us build our reputation as speakers, educators, coaches and now authors is our character, honesty, and the love of God. People want to communicate and relate to real people, those who do not fear to show the “good, bad and ugly”; those who do not live of appearances, but show their humanity and the beautifulness in failing, learning, growing, and succeeding personally and as a couple. In addition, people seek the assistance of individuals who are serious about their work, who are responsible, accountable, transparent, caring, and true. This is our motto to ensure our reputation stays true, “serve God, then serve people”.
