We recently connected with Dr. Wynette Green and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Wynette, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I have taken several, what I would definitely consider “big life-changing risks” which has been instrumental in where I am today as a successful entrepreneur and solo mental health clinician helping many people daily. The first big risk I took was changing careers. I earned my undergraduate degree in Accounting; and worked in the business field for very prominent organizations such as: Price Waterhouse LLC, Ryder Systems Inc, and Cleveland Clinic Hospital Weston for over 10 years. Until I became adamantly, serious about pursuing my life’s purpose of becoming a marriage and family therapist which was a complete change of career. This was very risky because it required that I start from the bottom as an in-home therapist for a local community service agency to obtain experience also while I was also going back to school to earn my PhD degree. Not only did this require additional time, but it also required a significant decrease in pay between being a seasoned, experienced Accountant to then an entry level mental health therapist.
This risk turned out amazing! Within 3 years, an opportunity presented itself where the agency was in need of someone who had both business and clinical skills to serve as the Program Director with the organization I was working with. I got the job! I was close to finishing my PhD program and; I had gained tons of quality experience with working with all populations and presenting problems, clinically. Now, I was able to utilize my business skills while encouraging and motivating my team of therapists to provide excellent services to their children and families they were serving. Also, I must say the increase in pay was very nice as well!

Dr. Wynette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a licensed Marriage and Family therapist in both the States of Florida and Georgia. I specialize in providing individual counseling to professional woman facing daily issues and challenges, and couples counseling to partners facing challenges with communication, intimacy and vulnerability; just to name a few of the issues we work through.
The mental health field is my preferred industry to pursue my career. This is because it was very important to me to positively contribute to society by helping others daily. It is my life purpose for everyday people who may feel like life is serving them “lemons” to learn specific skills on how to take those “lemons and make lemonade.” My therapeutic approach for helping my clients feel better and live a most fulfilling life is as an integrative therapist. I provide a solution-focused foundational approach in assisting clients find the solutions to solve their problems and in achieving their personal and professional goals.
I believe what sets me apart from other therapists and what has assisted me in successfully helping clients transform their lives from just existing to living their best lives every day are the specific skills, tools, I teach them on how to obtain and life a peaceful, harmonious, fulfilling life every day.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe one of the most effective strategies for growing your clientele is “your brand.” It is imperative that a business owner does the research and take the time to be intentional in who their clients are; as well as who the people they would like to serve or provide the goods or services to. It is also important to understand that regardless of what the service/product is “you” as the owner and/or a part of the organization are also a part of the brand.
It’s important to be mindful and intentional when you advertise or “show up” on social media, on your website, and/or any and all avenues that you choose to display or tell the world “who you are” and “what you do.” Every photo, every interview, every interaction is an opportunity to show off your brand and grow!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In regard to my reputation within the market, I believe it was built by the people and organizations I had the opportunity to surround myself with in addition to effort and hard work. The amazing people that I partnered with; where we had common values and goals in helping others. As well as their desire to teach me what they knew that worked and was successful. This in combination with my willingness and openness to want to learn as much as I can from them, was priceless.
