We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Tisa Montgomery a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Tisa , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Throughout my childhood and early adult life I lived a life of being obese. As a child, I always knew I was larger than my friends, and relatives my age. However, I did not know how being overweight would affect me as I grew older. Over the years, I became active in high school as a member of the auxiliary of the marching band in which I continued as I transitioned to college. During both pregnancies for my daughter and son I developed preeclampsia. Diabetes and high blood pressure is hereditary in my family. My older sister Anika was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the tender age of 6. I watched her go through so many complications over the years with diabetes.
After having both of my kids the number on the scale continued to increase. My energy levels continued to decrease and I was no longer happy with my appearance. At the age of 30, I made the decision to start making healthier choices. I knew at this point in my life if I wanted to avoid the hereditary diseases and desired to live an active life for my children and husband. It was up to me to stop living an unhealthy life. The time to make the transition was NOW.
I started creating lean meal plans that I would follow with fidelity. My next step was to get physically active. I joined Planet Fitness and started going to the gym 5 days per week. Overtime, I started to lose weight. My goal was to make small changes that would lead to big results. I wanted my journey to be slow, steady, and lasting. As I started to lose the weight those around me really started to notice. My friends, family, and work peers. They were happy for my new happiness of losing weight. My friends, family, and peers also wanted me to help them reach their healthy lifestyle goals.
The number of family and friends reaching out for advice on getting their weight loss journey started was massive. From there, I started helping anyone who asked for advice. I shared my meal plans, and invited friends and peers to the gym or out in the evenings for walks. The need for advice about transitioning into a healthier lifestyle started grow even more. It started to becoming overwhelming to manage getting back with everyone whom seeked advice. It was in that moment I knew I had to create a platform for women, men, and young kids that need guidance to avoid living a life with obesity.

I am Dr. Tisa Montgomery. I am a wife, mother, school administrator, author, and entrepreneur whom resides in Jacksonville, Florida. I have been in the field of education for 17 plus years, in which I have had a direct impact on students, teacher, parents, and the community serving in the roles of a Classroom Teacher, Reading Interventionist, Reading Coach, Professional Development Facilitator, and Assistant Principal.
I entered the industry of Total Body Wellness in the year of 2015. I created my organization My Fitness is My Habit also known as MFIMH. MFIMH was introduced to the world using social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. Through both platforms I posted meal plans, exercise routines, healthy tips, and developed wellness groups for direct coaching sessions with clients.
The services I provide are customized meal plans and work out plans, I prepare and sell low calorie smoothies, facilitate childhood obesity prevention interactive lessons for after school programs and summer camps. My most recent creation is the publishing of my book “You Will Win” How I Learned to Develop, Healthy Habits to Live a Healthy lifestyle. The problem my organization and book solves is the growing number of adults and children living with obesity.
My organization initiatives, products, and services provide the blueprint to make the necessary changes to live a healthier lifestyle. Since 2015 my team and I has been responsible for changing the lives of hundreds of individuals. From working side by side with clients to create and develop customized meal plans that fits into their lifestyles. Leading heart healthy initiatives such as Walk it out Wednesdays during the evening hours in downtown Jacksonville. Providing one on one coaching cycles using customized workout plans. During Covid I produced low calorie weight loss smoothies in which a growing number of clients purchased to get back on track to lose the post Covid weight.
I not only promote living a healthy lifestyle for weight management but living a healthy lifestyle in all components of your life including emotional, and mental self-care.. I am so very proud of the impact my story has had on so many lives. I have had the opportunity to tell my story to several audiences as a guest speaker at events locally and throughout the Southern states. I truly believe everyone has the opportunity to WIN.
