We recently connected with Dr. Sylvia Kampshoff and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Sylvia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
I started Pata Life for one reason, to help reduce Argentina’s breast cancer mortality rate that is amongst the highest in the world. I always loved traveling to Argentina and always returned with one of their amazing high quality leather Bags. When my Mom as well as my husbands mom got breast cancer and the mom of a friend of us from Argentina who at that point was staying with us had died of breast cancer the idea of Pata was born. Bringing the unique high quality leather you find in Argentina to women here in the US and paying with a portion of the proceeds for Mammograms of Women in Need. We don’t just go there. Last November I went with my kids to the hospital Austral in Pilar in person and we got to talk with their amazing doctors and some of the women who thanks to our donations received Mammograms and Ultrasounds which otherwise they would have never received.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a former private equity attorney, who turned serial entrepreneur. Pata Life is an impact driven lifestyle brand bringing high quality, handmade leather and cowhide Bags to the US. We didn’t want a big brand label on our Bags and choose three Pink Stripes instead as female warrior logo, showing our support for women and fight against breast cancer. The warrior logo stands for fighting cancer and the strength of women.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Brand loyalty is crucial for me. Our customers are Pata. We regularly do Pop Ups and love to learn from our customers. One of our newest Bags, the white cowhide Pata Fanny Pack was born from feedback we got from a rockstar women customer and supporter of us. We never thought about designing a Fanny Pack and it has been an instant success selling out immediately. We learned so much from our customers and will always try to be out there to get in person feedback.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
100% word of mouth. With Pata we learned that if you have a unique high quality product with a mission and story your customers will spread the word for you. We are getting almost daily messages of customers who help spread our mission and vision what we are super thankful about. You can’t rely entirely on social anymore. With the changes in Facebooks algorithm it got very expensive to acquire customers and you need to find other channels, as our pop ups, to meet your customer and share your story.
