We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Sherrich Sharper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Sherrich, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
In my experience, people- mainly hiring managers don’t want to be honest with candidates as to why they didn’t select them for an open position. Some say, “people should know better, who am I to teach them?” It costs nothing to help someone by giving them honest feedback.
Dr. Sherrich, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, My name is Dr. Sharper- my friends and clients call me Dr. Share. I am a career coach, author, and women’s wellness advocate. Through my career coaching business, ShareTheRich, I write resumes, professional documents, and coach my clients on landing a new job, moving up at their job, and transitioning from a 9-5 to entrepreneurship. I am proud to help clients who feel stuck in their job and in their lives move forward and find work that engages and excites them; work that they get paid handsomely for. I have worked as an HR professional for over 10 years and daily I found myself coaching employees in my office. We talked about their strengths, professional dreams, and fears, and I offered some guidance for each situation. That is when I realized what my calling was. Seven years later ShareTheRich is thriving and I am proud of what I’ve accomplished with my clients
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started ShareTheRich, I tried to do everything myself. I tried to build a website (by the way, I’m no web developer), I tried to create my own marketing materials, and do my own financials. In my mind, everything was all on me, and since this was my business, I shouldn’t ask for help. Boy was I wrong. After I got overwhelmed and the product wasn’t what I desired, I swallowed my pride and asked for help. I had to unlearn pride in business- especially when it holds you back.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I check in with past clients regularly. Mainly to see how their job search is going and if they need my support. Through those conversations we catch up and if there is an opportunity for me to help them, I do. This relationship-building has led to many word-of-mouth referrals. I would say 75% of my business comes from word of mouth, and the other 25% comes from social media.
