We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Sheniqua Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Sheniqua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
What sets me apart—and in turn, my brand—is the way I blend real-world experience, deep empathy, and transformational strategy to create change that actually sticks. In a world where many facilitators deliver cookie-cutter presentations, I bring soul and strategy to every room I enter.
As a Registered Nurse, college instructor, and certified coach, I don’t just deliver information—I translate it. I specialize in breaking down complex topics—whether it’s wellness, leadership, or personal growth—into actionable, digestible steps that empower audiences to act, shift, and transform.
What truly sets my approach apart is that I bring the same energy to a one-on-one coaching session as I do to a keynote stage or a corporate workshop. I once led a grant-funded training initiative that equipped over 900 health coaches within a large home care agency. Every single week, I had to deliver not just content, but clarity. That experience sharpened my ability to connect deeply, teach effectively, and lead with both heart and precision.
This divergence from the standard “present and move on” approach is intentional. I don’t just show up to teach—I show up to transform. And transformation doesn’t happen with a PowerPoint alone. It happens when people feel seen, safe, and supported enough to grow. That’s what I do differently—and that’s why people come back, book me again, and bring me into rooms where real impact is the goal.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Dr. Sheniqua Johnson—Registered Nurse, transformational coach, corporate wellness facilitator, author, and international speaker. At my core, I’m a bridge: I help people move from burnout to balance, from confusion to clarity, and from surviving to thriving—whether they meet me in a workshop, a coaching session, or from the stage.
My journey began in healthcare, serving for over two decades as a nurse, where I saw firsthand how stress, disconnection, and lack of purpose can impact not only physical health—but overall well-being. That led me to expand my work beyond the bedside. I began training health coaches, leading wellness workshops, and teaching at the collegiate level—all with the same mission: to help people live and lead from a place of intention, wellness, and power.
I now run A Better U, where I serve as a Personal Development & Business Strategist. My work includes:
Facilitating transformational workshops and wellness trainings
Speaking at conferences and corporate events on leadership, mental well-being, and personal growth
Moderating panels and hosting thought-provoking conversations that elevate and inspire
Coaching high-achieving women who are ready to step boldly into their purpose
Publishing tools like journals, books, and media content that empower people to grow
One of the things I’m most proud of is leading a weekly, grant-funded training that supported over 900 health coaches in one of the largest home care agencies in New York. It wasn’t just about teaching—it was about elevating. That program proved that with the right structure, support, and spirit, people don’t just learn—they change.
What sets me apart? I bring the heart of a healer and the strategy of a CEO. I know how to read a room, meet people where they are, and guide them toward what’s next—with clarity, empathy, and energy. Whether I’m on a panel, delivering a keynote, or working behind the scenes with a team, I help unlock breakthrough moments.
For those reading this who are looking for a speaker who can move an audience, a moderator who brings both insight and intention, or a coach who can help your team reconnect with their “why”—I’m that powerhouse. And I’m ready to bring transformation into your space.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the most defining pivots in my life came when I transitioned from being a full-time nurse and educator to stepping fully into my purpose as a transformational speaker and coach.
For years, I thrived in the healthcare space—serving patients, leading trainings, and even teaching future nurses in the classroom. But despite all the success on paper, I felt an inner pull. I kept hearing from colleagues, students, and clients that I had a gift, not just for teaching, but for activating people. For helping them get unstuck, reconnect with themselves, and take bold steps forward.
Then came a season of deep personal loss and reflection. I had to confront burnout, grief, and the realization that I had spent so much of my life pouring that I hadn’t taken time to refill. That season forced me to ask: What legacy do I want to leave? What impact do I really want to make?
That’s when I pivoted—from working within systems to building one of my own. I founded A Better U, expanded my work as a speaker, created personal development tools and journals, and began helping women and organizations align their purpose with their performance. I didn’t abandon my healthcare roots—I built on them. Now, I bring that same nurturing, educational, and solution-focused energy into workshops, corporate events, and coaching spaces that foster real transformation.
It wasn’t easy. There were moments of fear and uncertainty. But pivoting was necessary. And today, I stand more aligned, more empowered, and more impactful than ever before.
Because the truth is: sometimes the pivot isn’t a detour—it’s the divine path.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A major lesson I had to unlearn was this: “Success requires self-sacrifice at all costs.”
For years, I thrived in high-pressure leadership roles—managing teams, mentoring others, showing up as the strong one, the capable one, the needed one. But behind the scenes, my health was declining. I had been ignoring the warning signs my body was giving me, pushing through pain and exhaustion in the name of purpose and performance.
It all came to a halt when I was forced to have surgery. During that mandated pause—my season of respite and recovery—I had a powerful realization: I had been taking care of everyone but myself. As a leader, a nurse, a coach, a woman—I was overgiving and undernourished, mentally, physically, and spiritually. That wake-up call changed everything.
I made the bold decision to resign from my secure six-figure job—not out of fear, but out of freedom. I chose my well-being over the expectations others had placed on me. I chose to lead by example, not from depletion.
That moment became the catalyst for my book, “The Power of Choice: Prioritizing Well-being in a High-Stress World.” I wrote it as a call to action for high-achieving women and leaders who are silently suffering behind their titles. Because I know firsthand, we can’t keep leading from empty.
Unlearning the idea that “success means self-sacrifice” allowed me to redefine what real power looks like. Today, I teach others how to lead with sustainability, how to heal while they build, and how to make their well-being a non-negotiable.
Because if we’re not well, we’re not fully here, and we can’t pour into others from a place we don’t possess.
