We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Shamieka Dean a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Dr. Shamieka, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?

The greatest scaling strategy is mindset. While there are many tools, tips, and techniques to scale a business it is only as successful as your belief system. Belief systems become birthing systems. Once I did the mindset work, my income and impact increased drastically. The biggest mindset shifts I had to make were money mindset, desire to deserve and next to now. I decided that no amount of money would intimidate me. I decided that money worked for me and I didn’t work for it. I decided that making money was the easiest thing to do. The other mindset shift I made was shifting from deserve to desire. For many years, I didn’t believe I deserved to have a lot of money. I disrupted that pattern because I now realize I deserve everything I desire. I ask for what I desire no matter how big. I don’t make decisions based on my now. I make them based on my next. I don’t look at what I don’t have when it comes to what I want. I hire based on my next. I invest based on my next. I make decisions based on my next. The strategy part of scaling up was no longer being a jack of all trades but a master of one. I focused on one product, one message, one sales strategy, one platform for one year. I became the expert in one area so that I became the expert that others referred. I focused on uplevling my client experience and their results so that the value of my offer would increase and make it a no brainer for others to work with me and my team.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am your favorite marketing solutionist for service based entreprenuers. I teach them how to expand their expertise into a signature program, shift from six figures a year to six figure launches and how to automate up to 90% of their marketing and sales so that they only have to work 10% of the time. We teach marketing from a mindset foundation. We understand that 80% of your money is in the mindset.

I am a social thought leader and influencer with over millions of views and over 80,000 followers across social media. I’ve coached over 4,000 in a 3 year time span. On average, our clients meet or double their income goals during the first six to twelve months of working with us.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One lesson I had to unlearn was that making money was hard. I witnessed my mom working two jobs and having several side hustles growing up. We weren’t poor but I knew she didn’t have the amount of income that matched the time and effort she was putting in. I thought that this was the way it was for everyone. It wasn’t until I started working with a coach who showed me that there was another way called grace and ease. She helped me to rebuild my relationship with God, restructure my business, and reframe my mindset. I doubled my income and decreased my work hours by 75%.
