We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Shadaria Allison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Shadaria, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Married2theMission Mission Statement: Lady advocates united as one; in the promotion of the reconstruction of faith-based organizations, in order to serve REAL communal needs.
Married2theMission was founded in 2014 and established in my unfurnished living room in the deep south in 2015. Its shapeless form was just a safe place for women to meet, be encouraged, and connect with God, monthly. I was clear in the fact that it wasn’t “church”, We would meet in the living room and sometimes gather toiletries, food, and educational materials and serve the downtown community in Birmingham, Al. As time went on, I saw something way bigger. God gave me a vision for the ones we served; mentally ill, the homeless, the drug addicted, the lost and the broken. I thought to campaign for an abandoned building in our downtown structure, people thought it was innovative, but were never invested in its completion. God showed me a bigger vision and it was simple, church reform. All my life, the church played an important role in not only how I saw God, but how I envisioned the possibilities of community inclusion. With that, I began to write books about communal reform for my city and then with a plan to write “Married2theMission’ books for every city in America, my vision turned into a plan to sit Government, Churches, and Health Care professionals down at a table to discuss the possibilities of turning the church (an already 501c3 establishment) into a state of the art recreational and rehabilitation facility for the misfortunate.
I believe that the times we are living in; call for the church to be more. To untie from the traditional pew exhortations; in order to become a walking presence of help as Yeshua intended,
It is and has been a long mission, but I’m #Married2it. No annulment.
Dr. Shadaria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a 10-time International Best-Selling Author, Speaker, and multi-dimensional businesswoman, with a clear acumen for writing and consulting, I have written more than 500 bios for celebrity, political, and entrepreneurial clientele; as well as create graphics, book covers, and publishing for many professionals. I help people find, know, and then commit to their story; one client at a time. This, consequently, has played a key role in the way I intend to both forward the agenda of Married2theMisson, and give other women a platform to express their heart about the turbulent times we face in America. In fact, I have a project coming up, and am looking for at least 50 women who want to tell their story. Lets work together to see this nation heal.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My right hand, Lilo.
Ashley V. Lowe is a multifaceted Leader, Organizer, Marketing Maven, and my best friend in the entire world, and it’s been that way since we were teenagers. Celebrating two decades of friendship, sisterhood, and now advocacy; her boldness, trustworthiness, spiritual leadership, and strong relationship with the creator mark but so many reasons why she was asked to be the President of Married2theMission. I met Ashley “Lilo” Lowe, my junior year of high school. We rode the bus together and after we would walk one another home, talking about the diverse stories that felt like the sky was falling on teenagers. She was bright eyed with long black flowing hair and a smile that made the world feel ; everything was going to be alright. She and I have seen each other through some of the best and worst of times. We have prayed through every obstacle; always keeping GOD at the center. The day that she walked into my life, she walked into it forever and I cannot wait to see her help the world know HOW BIG DADDY GOD IS IN HER and what a miracle she brings to the world. I love u GUH!
Any advice for managing a team?
DELAGATE. DELAGATE. DELAGATE.
What you cannot carry by yourself, you were not meant to, the greatest businessman I know was Christ, He employed 12, deployed them by 2, and had them share the message that he couldn’t pass on to the rest of the world. That is how it must be in business. If you find that the load is too heavy for you to carry alone, you must push yourself to become a collaborator with your purpose, and sometimes that means allowing trusted alliances to carry the load when you cannot. As far as morale, we generally lean into what we hold respect for. We are most true to what we believe in, Lean-in, respect, and believe in your dream and the morale will follow.
