We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Sarah Zaldivar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Sarah below.
Dr. Sarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time, I definitely wish I would have started a business sooner rather than later. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I am built for entrepreneurship. I just used to think that entrepreneurs were intimidating mean bosses, and I never imagined that I could be that person. I suffered greatly with anxiety, self-confidence, and low esteem, and I hated confrontations (I still do by the way), and for those reasons I thought I could never be in a leadership position. Little did I know that true leaders had none of the traits I ascribed to them in my mind.
It wasn’t until I graduated with my doctorate in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition from the University of Miami that I realized that I couldn’t bear the thought of employment.
That was when I dove right into entrepreneurship and content creation.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was a chubby kid, so I thought that becoming a dietitian would help me lose weight. Little did I know that I was to get taught all the wrong things with regard to the optimal human diet, and that led me to struggle for far too long with my weight despite being a dietitian.
I lived all my life in Lebanon, and it was very hard for me to “fit in” as I was a very ambitious woman and feminist, so naturally I had to leave and come to the United States, mainly Miami, Florida.
Getting my Ph.D. was the ticket for me to be able to leave Lebanon, and it served that purpose well, but I was never built for “fitting in” and getting employed.
For that reason, once I graduated I dove into my entrepreneurial journey which is in the nutrition sphere, as I’m so passionate about that topic.
The only difference is that now I preach the importance of following The Carnivore Diet, which is the total opposite of what I was taught throughout my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nutrition!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It took me 2 years to gain my first 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, but I kept going, and now I make a good living out of it!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I listened to a lot of Gary Vee to patiently build my social media platforms. He’s a breath of fresh air in a world addicted to instant gratification. Because of him and other inspiring folks I found on the internet, I stayed consistent with posting and sharing my content in an authentic way for a very long time. I bought books and watched all the free content on YouTube to figure out how others have built their following, and that inspiration kept me going. In a nutshell, being successful on social media or in any other venue requires years of dedication and hard work even when it doesn’t feel like it’s working.
