We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Rachna Buxani-Mirpuri a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Rachna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
When I thought of expanding my practice it was scary. Until then I had a solo practice. Being in a new country where I hardly knew anyone and the ways of doing business, the very thought of growth and hiring a team was intimidating. My husband who is a vey successful business owner encouraged me but the biggest lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself that I would be ok no matter what risks I chose to take. The rest as they say is history.

Dr. Rachna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dr. Rachna Buxani-Mirpuri is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) practicing in Florida and the founder of Buxani Counseling Care. She has practiced as a counselor for more than 20 years nationally and internationally. Her approach to helping provides an empathetic, non-judgmental, and safe environment for clients to heal and become resilient through the therapeutic process. Rachna’s greatest strength when delivering interventions is her multicultural counseling experience. She is especially empathic to cultural dynamics in the context of mental health issues amongst clients.
She is also author of “Pint of patience with a Dollop of Love” a parenting recipe book.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our amazing client service. When I moved to Miami I realized that a lot of places would not even call back patients who were calling to get help. I knew I had to change that. People who reach out are vulnerable and it takes a lot for them to actually take that first step towards getting help, so being compassionate and caring is the least we can do.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I moved back to the States after 16 years, my licensure to practice had expired and a lot had changed in the field. After all that time of practicing internationally, I had to go back to school and complete some requirements to practice in Florida. I remember thinking of giving up many times but stuck through it and finally got re licensed and started my business.
