We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Quanesha Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Quanesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
When I was a teenager, I unfortunately feel into the statistics of my neighborhood of becoming a teen mother, to a now 14 year old boy. This was a very hard season in my life and after I had no idea what to do, but after much reflection and holding onto my faith, I was able to prevail and become a mental health doctor at 30 years old. Now I’m helping people all over with some of the same challenges that I went through.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a mental health Doctor Who is contracted with the state of Georgia and absolutely love what I do. I want people to understand how important the mental health is and how if we are not taking this serious can continue to ruin America. I am very serious About the work that I do and helping my clients. I always add in spirituality if the client feels comfortable to help, because I know this route help me not only overcome battles but prevail to become a doctor about 30 years old after being a teen mother.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would definitely choose the same major in school and obtain a PhD in the field because not only is it a career, but it is my passion and I believe my mission here on this earth.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I was always told to listen and almost not have my own thoughts as it relates to over a grandmother or mother positions, however, the older I get the more I realize the most important thing is to go to God and ask him because we are all humans and we have no idea what to do sometimes no matter how old you are
