We recently connected with Dr. Pam Perry and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Pam, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always loved personal development books and speakers. Often as a young adult, I would attend motivational conferences and events where there were speakers who were authors. I got hooked on books. I loved being inspired by great speakers. Problem was, there wasn’t even attention given to Black speakers and authors.
My passion came in helping those authors and speakers get the shine they deserves so they can change lives.
My journalism skills led me to work in ad agencies, PR agencies, radio, TV and of course now I own my own magazine, focusing on Black Speakers.
I also how a podcast on Amazon as an Amazon Influencer – where I interview all types of authors who are changing the world for the better with their words.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Have you ever had to pivot?
PR has changed. I had to pivot as technology pivoted. I went not being a “techy” to teaching social media marketing classes and webinars. I had to learn SEO and how to blog. Public relations is not just about writing a press release and pitching it to the media. There are a lot of layers to it including digital marketing, website, podcasting, social media reels, TikToks and email marketing…..all of which I had to learn to stay relevant in the media/PR space,
That’s why I started my own podcast (which is like my own radio show), blog (like our own newspaper), Youtube channel (our TV station),and Speakers Magazine… which is a combination of them all,
Owning my own media is a how I made a pivot.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Share everything everywhere. LOL. Literally that’s how I built my audience. I am a promoter. So, it’s natural for me share. I promote good stuff and I love sharing it. But if I were just starting out, I would build the website, create an awesome “freebie” and build my list. I would drive traffic to the website with video on Facebook and promoting those videos with FB ads.
I would also take those videos and put on Youtube. And do some Youtube LIVE and shorts. Yep, that’s what I would do, I would then ease into TikToks, etc.
