We recently connected with Dr. Nikolas Amini and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Nikolas, thanks for joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
You know what they say. There’s no place like home, and there’s no place like your own to call home. I grew up in the suburbs of Houston and attended Texas A&M University for my bachelor’s degree before moving to Mississippi for my first Masters. I then acquired my Doctor of Dental Surgery from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed a residency and masters in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Jacksonville, FL. My Orthodontics Masters thesis focused on treating more complex cases with clear aligners to be a better clinician. After residency, I practiced as an Orthodontist in a busy corporate practice gaining valuable experience, and became board certified by the American Board of Orthodontists soon after. Now, as a Texan and Board Certified Orthodontist, I am excited to be finally back here in the great state of Texas and the beautiful city of San Antonio, transforming the smiles of my fellow Texans.
There have been many difficulties in getting here today, from attending Dental School in the freezing temperatures of Buffalo, NY, with all its long hours and restless nights, to years of dedication and hard work at residency, to becoming a board-certified Orthodontist. However, the biggest challenge thus far has been opening my own private practice. The world of Dentistry and Orthodontics has been overcome by corporations that make it intimidating for private start up offices like ours to grow. However, along the process, I’ve learnt that individualized care, building personal relationships along with consistency and quality of work from start to finish, is what separates us from big corporations. My aim is to transform smiles of generations and generations of happy patients and leave a positive footprint in the community.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We offer all Orthodontic services such as Comprehensive treatment with metal, clear or gold braces, Invisalign (and more cost-efficient aligner options), spring aligner therapy, Phase I, Interceptive treatment, Impacted teeth, expanders, habit appliances, etc. I am an Orthodontics specialist and board certified by the American Board of Orthodontists, and part of the cleft lip and palate team at Methodist Hospital. I, Dr. Amini, treat every single patient that walks into our practice. Unlike corporation-owned practices where doctors often change, and patients might see 2-3 different Orthodontists throughout their active treatment, I believe in accountability, standing behind my work, and building a name in the community. Patients are in good care before, during, and after your treatment. At Amini Ortho, we believe in fair and low pricing. Braces always cost $149/month with Zero down. At the complimentary consultation, patients are told how many months it takes to complete their treatment. Most treatment plans are completed in 10-20M depending on complexity, making the total cost of comprehensive care between $1490-$2980 without Insurance.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Most definitely! Orthodontics and making smiles beautiful is the best part of my day. I absolutely love and take pride in what I do.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Excellent work and fair pricing. I believe in treating all patients like family and taking the time to address all concerns. At Amini Ortho patients always come first.
