We recently connected with Dr. Nika White and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Nika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
When creating a more inclusive workplace include the most marginalized individuals in the conversation. They will have insight into the day-to-day culture of an organization. It’s beneficial to create a safe environment for employees to share their feelings and observations. This is the best way to build a strategic plan that creates effective change on every level.
Dr. Nika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

How did you build your audience on social media?
To the surprise of most people, my background is in marketing communications. I worked for a large ad agency, headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, so I understand the importance of building and consistently following your brand. I would advise anyone to produce good, consistent, engaging content for a targeted audience. I write for Entrepreneur and Forbes where likeminded individuals and clients can find NWC. I also host a vodcast, Intentional Conversations, where the community can discuss DEI information and Inclusion Uncomplicated, where I break down DEI strategies into digestible 3 minutes videos. All of this builds my brands and shows clients my ideas and values. Align with people who have the skill set to guide you, like creating your visual brand, when to post and where, etc. Use social media effectively to build your brand and increase your voice of authority. Create reach by resharing, liking, commenting, and following people who share your mission on many different platforms. This will build a community around you.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele is to do good work. I receive many new clients from excellent reviews and recommendations. To do good work invest in great talent that’s clear on your mission and values. Take the time on the front end to find the perfect match. Create a strong brand, outbound sales strategy, communication plan, and align service and products. This will help drive specific clientele your way, so you’re not wasting time on leads that don’t match your services. And don’t forget visibility. Visibility in different places like speaking engagements and cultivating relationships will ensure that organizations think of you when the need arises. Being a book author is a way to build your brand and visibility. I’ve authored three books, the latest from Forbes Books, ‘Inclusion Uncomplicated: A Transformative Guide to Simplify DEI.’ Again clients can learn about my philosophy and skill set before the discovery by reading my book. It’s not enough just to do good work, people need to know about it.
