Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Niesha Davis-Massey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Niesha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking a risk often feels like standing on the edge of something unknown, right before you take that leap. For me It’s that moment when you weigh the possibilities; what could go wrong, or what could go right— weighing the pros and cons and just deciding to make the decision to go for it anyway even when you don’t have the ultimate plan or knowing how you are going to do it. Have you ever been in this space? I sure have when I decided to step in the role of starting my first and second mental health practice! This was a big risk for me both times, however I’m so glad that I did. Being able to walk alongside my clients and patients and being a part of their healing journey is such a blessing and humbling experience!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a dedicated advocate for mental and emotional health and wellness. As a trauma psychotherapist, consultant, motivational speaker, healing coach, and facilitator, I bring over 20 years of experience to her work in Psychotherapy, Human Services, Case Management, and Social Work. I am the Owner and Clinical Director of InspireMe Counseling and Wellness Center and InspireMe Counseling and Psychotherapy, Inc, and the founder and CEO of YWRAP (Young Women Reaching Accomplishable Places), a mentorship program for at-risk girls.
I am the author of Your Story Does Not Define You: A Healing Journey from Trauma Through Expression and Self-Affirmation, which empowers readers to reclaim their narratives and embrace healing and personal growth from trauma. I am also the creator and host of Your Story Does Not Define You The Podcast, and on this platform guides conversations that empower listeners to embrace their stories and find hope and healing from the hurt and pain of their past.
My passion for trauma work fuels my compassion about helping others navigate life’s challenges and fostering resilience. I wholeheartedly believe in the power of connection, trust, and creating safe spaces for healing. My guiding philosophy is: “It’s okay not to be okay. Everyone needs someone who can provide hope, courage, strength, and support during difficult times.” I feel blessed be that person for so many and very proud of this.
Through my therapeutic trauma work and as a healing coach, I empower my clients and patients with the tools to enhance their quality of life and achieve a transition from surviving to thriving by embracing their mental and emotional healing.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had the opportunity to do things all over again, I would most definitely still be a Trauma Therapist and Healing Coach. This work that I do is a gift, a calling and a ministry. I am honored to be trusted with my clients’ stories and strive to instill hope, and plant positive seeds that cultivate growth, healing, and transformation to improve over-all quality of life. So I definitely would choose the same profession!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Running a business is not easy! It definitely takes a lot of work and perseverance, and sometimes you have to pivot and make changes. I have had to do that a few times, because the math wasn’t mathing. This required me to go back to the table and redo some things, make changes with employees, down size, all of the things. This was hard however definitely helped me put things into perspective and reshuffle and it all was worth it and is working out for the business now!
