We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr Monica Krishnan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr Monica , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The defining moment in my career was when I began working as a Grief and Mental Health Advocate. After loosing my husband to cancer – I was lost . In 2018, I began my very first public speaking engagement on a show called Smashing the Stigma .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been practicing Clinical Pharmacy for 20 plus years and have worked in many areas within the field . I currently work in a community setting and love my patients .
I had the honor of joining remedy health media in 2021 as a medical writer , and have written several articles on real patient cases that I have seen.
I am currently working on some more writing projects, specifically a children’s book on grief .
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When my husband died , I went through a very tough time . I went through the many stages of grief and it took me a very long time to get to acceptance. In all the darkness, the light were my two daughters . My why and my reason to move on. I knew that my life was to do purpose work and create a new normal for my two girls . Be their mom and dad
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
for me it was hiring the right team. I had a vision of what I wanted to do in my work as a grief advocate, so I hired a writing coach and a media house team called Write and Shine Media House and the brains behind it, Magriet . To be able to dream with her and for her to give me the platform to truly turn my pain into purpose.
