Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Melissa Kroll. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Melissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Going on your own, opening your own practice, does not come without challenges, but how could it not, it’s something new. Let me tell you, it also comes with self-growth, freedom, experiences, and so much more.
Within the final years of my doctor of chiropractic program, I was on the search for the career of my dreams. Graduating school at 29 years old there was much I already knew of what I wanted and what did not fit that picture. I explored many avenues of joining successful and thriving practices, but none of them felt like the home I was looking for. When time came and I could not find what I was looking for, I had to create it.
Building my own practice gave me the opportunity to choose everything, starting with the location? While traveling around exploring states that resonated with me, my values, and my interests I lived with my sister and brother-in-law. Home is what you make of it and how you define it, but you must love where you live. That’s what I was searching for. I landed in Charleston, SC. The last location on my list, and that place is now where I call home. Moving to a new location without knowing anyone is a big step, making it a leap opening up my own holistic health and wellness office at the same time. Within the first six months of business my office went from my home, to a shared chiropractic room, to my own space. Each change came with growth, adding in technologies, equipment, supplements and more to the office. Also came with much more paperwork, taxes, licenses, and business plans. Treating patients and clients all day ending with business admin tasks adds up, but I still can say I leave the office happy and loving what I am doing.
Wrapping up my first year as a Chiropractor and owner to my small business has me standing strong in a place with still much more learning and growing to do, and I wouldn’t change anything. If going on your own, and starting your own practice is what resonates with you, ask yourself what’s holding you back? Don’t be afraid to choose you, do what is best for you, that will bring you joy. Also do not be afraid to ask for help. There are many others that have done the same or something similar and can offer guidance. It’s okay to accept help. That’s what keeps each of us going.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a natural medicine chiropractor, who uses frequency medicine/muscle testing to look for and treat the imbalances in the body. I offer services virtually to those around the world and in-person in Charleston, SC. I work with each of my patients to find any imbalance within their body whether it be nutritionally, emotionally, or structurally and guide them to restore the body to the state of optimal health. Each appointment can cover a wide range of issues; emotional stressors and traumas, skin conditions, allergies, toxicities, autoimmune conditions, neurological dysfunction, and more. Many of the patients seeing me have come after a list of many other doctors, saying “they have tried everything and nothing seems to work”. Within your session, steps are taken to elevate the body, mind and spirit as we take a look at your full body’s wellness so they will be built to thrive.
Along with my one-on-one virtual or in-person appointments, I have an active presence on Instagram sharing my knowledge with a widespread community. Post, Reels, Stories, Q/As and more so there is free holistic health and healing knowledge at the tip of your fingers. Come follow along @drmelkroll.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes I would! This is no going back in life, there is moving forward with all different paths. Whichever journey you are on it is what you make it. If that road is not leading where you want it to, then change the path.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The knowledge, training and experiences I have had. Every technique I use daily with my patients was education I learned beyond my Chiropractic School curriculum. I have attended various seminars and completed certifications in techniques that make each of my appointments unique and leave my patients feeling better and seeing improvements in all aspects of their life. Techniques I used and recommend to those in this line of work:
Contact Reflex Analysis
Neuro Emotional Technique
Quantum Neurology
Lebowitz Technique
Chiro Plus Kinesiology
Wholisitic Methylation
Applied Kinesiology
Quantum Neuro Reset Therapy
Never stop learning!
