We recently connected with Dr Marlene Siegel and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Marlene, thanks for joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
In veterinary school we were taught how to name things and come up with the pharmaceutical solution. We were not taught how to identify the root cause of disease. The root cause of disease is simple, all health challenges are either caused by a deficiency of essential nutrients or a toxicity overload combined with mitochondrial dysfunction.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am an integrative veterinarian with 40 years experience. My expertise is in detoxification and cancer therapy. I have on line programs for veterinarians to teach how to integrate alternative medicine into their practices and a similar program for pet parents so they can learn how to create a healthier lifestyle for their fur babies. I also am the leading innovator for alternative therapies, working with many companies to develop new products and procedures for animal health.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2004 one of my show horses, Lilly, and my 10 year old daughter were involved in a riding accident. Something caused Lilly to rear and in dong so, she fell backwards, almost falling on top of my daughter. But Lilly managed to push herself just far enough to one side to avoid crushing the child. Lilly literally saved my childs life. Traditional western medicine was unable to diagnose the problem that caused Lilly to rear during the show. Equine vets offered only 2 solutions, retire the horse to a pasture for the rest of her life or put her down. I was unwilling to accept “there was nothing more that could be done” to heal this horse. I sought alternative means to treat the mare which changed my life and my career path. The journey to fix Lilly led me to chiropractic training, a thorough understanding of nutrition, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, energy medicine, Chinese herbs, intrinsic energy products, therapeutic laser, essential oils, Bach Flowers, emotional healing, and certification in Live Blood Analysis. All these modalities and many more were integrated into Lilly’s treatment protocols resulting in greater success than western modalities alone. And Lilly’s story…5 months after being told she would never be shown safely again, Lilly and my daughter went on to win the United States Youth National Reserve Championship. And as of 2022, Lilly is still alive and well.

Have you ever had to pivot?
As a result of Lilly’s experience, I made a vow to never tell someone “there is nothing more that can be done”. I have dedicated my career to finding “more tools in the tool kit” and helping doctors and pet parents to understand the pets “biology” so they can treat the root cause of the challenge and not mask the symptoms. I used to be shy and despise public speaking. Now I am an international speaker and educator and “bio hacker”, constantly looking for new solutions. Finding your passion and purpose is what life is all about!
