We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Linda Salvin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Linda below.
Dr. Linda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Taking a risk is what life is about; I went on blind faith after surviving a plane crash in in 1981. I had not idea what I would be doing after I left my corporate job, not willingly but thankfully. I have learned everything happens for a reason. I was headed in one direction academically and professionally and literally indoctrinated into the spiritual world beyond my wildest expectations. I became psychic in the crash, was out of my body 50 feet for 4 months, lost consciousness of a reality I had once knew, many friends rejected me and moved on and there I was, pre-internet days (!) searching for answers to a near-death out-of-body experience. No one spoke about it back then. I was lost, searching, scared, confused, out of my body (and my mind, lol) as I was becoming psychic and did not know what to do with it. I took a risk as I chartered through unknown territories. I gigged around town with my music, did stand up comedy but things kept leading me back to the psychic world for some reason. I ran for 12 years before I embraced the gift and then was accepted to work with the then infomercial, Psychic Friends Network, staring Dionne Warwick. A year into the work, I was invited to be in the show and that launched my career. From TV to Los Angeles’ KBIG 104 FM radio, I became the number one, original radio psychic. This was 1994 and I was on the airwaves nationally and again locally on the former CBS KLSX 97.1 FM. I had a small residency at KABC and spent 9 years on Cable Radio. The internet started, I began guest spots.
I had done various TV talk shows. I also developed a candle magic line called Wicks of Wisdom ™ which helps people expand their spiritual lives. It’s all been a risk. Life is a risk. I live off the edge in business tackling ideas, products and services that are not the norm. I have a thriving private practice, recently build my own internet radio station and have been asked to appear on more TV shows. If we stay quiet and in the safety zone, without taking a risk into the unknown, how can we grow and really know life?
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a native of Los Angeles. Growing up in Sherman Oaks, I dreamed of being a singer-songwriter. Once in college, I entered health education. I earned a BA at San Francisco State University in 1975, I was then enrolled at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health where I earned my MPH degree in Epidemiology. (Big word today with the pandemic). Four years after grad school, while on company business as an Environmental Health Specialist, the plane I was traveling on for a work-related assignment, crash-landed and my life changed forever. I had a premonition an hour before our flight but had never had one that I can recall, so I paid no attention to the fact I saw the plane cracking in half on the body. An hour and some minutes after take off, the Boeing 737 crashed to avoid collision with another plane taking off on the same runway. As I slid down the emergency shoot, something entered me and spoke to me. I ran for yards before realizing the plane had crashed. I was taken to a hospital after telling the paramedics I was ‘split in half’. That sensation of being out of my body about 50 feet on the left lasted about 4 months.
I had no idea what had happened. To make a very long story short, after 12 years of running from my psychic gifts, which evolved from two more near-death experiences and a white light experience, I surrendered to the newfound abilities I had been given to help others. In retrospect now, I realize I was being initiated by the spiritual world to help people in their lives.
I was on Psychic Friends Network in 1992 with Dionne Warwick which lead me to becoming the first radio psychic, starting my broadcasting career on LA local KBIG 104 FM. From there, I developed and produced my own radio show (pre internet!!)
and was on radio from 1994-2009. During that time, I learned from helping others, people wanted more than just answers; I was trained in candle magic and started my own line called Wicks of Wisdom. We were on TV with an infomercial in 2008-2009.
I offer psychic readings, metaphysical healing and my candles to help people. I also have a few health and wellness products I support and suggest to help people on their journey. Without health, there is no quality of life. It starts within, and the integration of mind, body and soul is very important to a fulfilling life.
I am proud of the 1000s of testimonials I have received from people experiencing and validating my work. I am a detailed psychic, I heal where some professionals have failed and I can diagnose a situation quickly to help someone achieve the next level of their growth potential.
I returned to school in 2005 to earn a PhD in Metaphysics to qualify and quantity the science with the spiritual to help people. I have been published in many magazines, authors who have worked with me included me in their books, I have been on several TV talk shows, made numerous radio appearances outside my own show and am currently editing my book for publication. My products and services are spiritually ordained and created, provided and available for those who need direction, faith or more on their path.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back and start my journey again, I would not have pursued the health field, clinical or holistic. As it turned out, it chose me. I had dreams of being a singer songwriter. I began playing guitar at age 9, 1963. I studied until I was 17. I remember telling my mom I wanted to go into music and she said I was living in a fantasy world. The talent is still in me, I write and compose. After the plane crash and as I settled in to the new world of my spiritual growth, I did, in fact, return to music and was offered not one but two record deals along the way. Unfortunately, during those times of healing and not understanding the psychic phenomena taking over me, I walked away both times. I often beat myself up about it questioning why I did that in 1982 and again in 1994. Those opportunities are long gone. However, in today’s market, we can all promote our own music online on various platforms. I was distracted, discouraged and painfully ridiculed as a grammar school girl and took a lot of that insecurity from the bullying along my life’s ride. I am toying with the idea of playing again, especially since I recently built my own radio station and will be syndicating with another network to relaunch my show and brand. I can certainly add my music to my station just as I love interviewing artists. Any musician reading this can feel free to contact me and if it’s a compatible match, I’ll interview them on my show! Once creative, always creative. Our soul maintains its truth. It’s what we do with ourselves that is important.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was forced to pivot in my life and career after the plane crash in 1981. I could not return to the job I was on during the accident. After a 9 month healing period, when I did return, I was laid off due to ‘corporate reorganization’ which was total bs. They wanted to get rid of me after the Worker’s Comp and 9 month absence. That job required travel and I was not ready to get back on an airplane. The stress, trauma, depression and anxiety is something too difficult to explain. I had to pivot, reinvent and figure out what to do. It was trial and error for years; I did return to music and was gigging around town when I fell ill, had emergency surgery and during the recovery period, discovered I had been given healing powers or energy. I put down my guitar and start helping people. In 1994, the second deal came along but I went into radio instead as I was at a fork in the road. I had worked at a local Cal State campus, waitressed, worked in the film industry and bounced around trying to figure out where I belonged after the plane crash. I eventually looked up in the sky, threw my arms in the air and asked God literally, what he wanted me to do. The doors began to open in spiritual healing, psychic work, radio, tv, my own practice and personal appearances. Things turned out to be a blessing in disguise even though going through some of the most bizarre accidents and evolving spiritually as a psychic from 3 near death experiences forced me to pivot, learn trust, faith and find hope. By putting one foot in front of another, being backstabbed, ridiculed and humiliated for the work I was doing. I followed the path anyway and after 30 years on radio, TV, being in a few movies, etc., it all paid off. I just get up after I’m knocked down or the rug is taken from beneath me. Life is not a straight line. I am always reinventing, pivoting and balancing but I stay true to how I feel and create a path that has challenging and exciting opportunities. Sometimes I feel I lost out on a lot due to the choice of work but the work chose me as previously stated. I just trust the universe and let it unfold.
