We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Lauren Brim. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Lauren below.
Dr. Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Honestly there are too many heartwarming stories to pick just one. Every day I get to witness mother’s faces change in amazement and awe as they breastfeed their babies for the first time without pain. Some for the first time period! When a baby no longer has tension in their body, face and mouth, breastfeeding becomes easier for baby and pain-free for mom. Mothers then bond with their babies more, and they get to slow down, relax and enjoy the magic of this special time. I absolutely love my job. I get to see lives change trajectories: babies set on a path of healthy breathing, digestion and brain function, families bonding deeper and enjoying better relationships, and with my coaching practice, improved communication and satisfaction in intimacy. It brings me great joy to help families and marriages stay together and fall deeper in love, and be deeply in love with their children.

Dr. Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Twenty years ago I was dancing with the Radio City Rockettes when I fractured my spine dancing. In a search to heal the back spasms and pain I was in, I discovered mind-body medicine and I never looked back. Almost ten years into my practice I discovered the impact that working with the fascia had on babies, and I was able to combine my mind-body practice with hands-on bodywork to help babies with all sorts of conditions and diagnosis. At the same time I was completing a PhD in human sexuality and coaching women in the realm of healthy sexuality, sexual health and intimacy. Today I am proud to work with babies, families and couples to achieve their health and wellness goals in several very niche fields.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
One of the most effective tools to build my reputation in my market was something I had nothing to do with – Facebook groups! There was a Facebook group that had to do with lip and tongue ties that referred me a lot of clients early on, and some other mom’s groups as well. Today it is mostly lactation consultants, pediatric dentists and previous clients of mine who refer babies to me. Other people find me online, particularly for coaching, via a google search or my Yelp or Google business page.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The most helpful factor for succeeding in my field is having or developing excellent communication skills. Working successfully with families is about more than knowing the right techniques. One must be able to listen, to validate, to support and understand. It’s important to know all of the factors that can influence how well a baby or family thrives, from sleep, to environment, to soothing techniques, boundary setting, and so much more. We also have to explain the work, to calm families and answer their questions, and to showcase the results. My experiences as a mother of three has given me an equal education to the one I received from the healers and practitioners I studied under. I can relate to the mothers and couples and I support them from that place of deep empathy and wisdom. I’ve been there!
