Dr. LaTrice , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?

My story of failure is in business. It was actually a failure that turned into a major win! Early in my business, my company produced an amazing empowerment magazine. We had paid writers on staff who submitted quarterly articles. The response was good at first and subscriptions we’re going well. After about two years, subscriptions were beginning to slow and it was costing more to produce than what was being made. Although it was a great product, after the third full year of production, I shut the magazine down with the last quarter having NO sales. That was a hard choice but a necessary one. The major win came shortly after I decided to closeout the Magazine division. A lady reached out to me wanting to produce her own magazine. She wanted my company to design the layout for her and provide the ability to sale her magazine. Amazingly, this one year contract generated more income for my business than the full three years of magazine sales. Since that time, I’ve designed magazines for many other ministries and for profit organizations. My experience over the three years of producing my magazine, though it didn’t yield much then, is now yielding greater return. And I was able to hone my design skills. Now, Living With More Enterprises, has a full magazine/newsletter design division. It was a huge failure with some losses that has turned into a major win for me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I started out in the publishing industry as an author 20 years ago. I published my first book and was elated. That experience is what I will call bittersweet. Sweet because I realized a dream, shared a portion of my life story and accomplished something new. Bitter because this first experience with the publishing world was not what most envision when becoming an author. This first publishing was with a traditional publisher, and I had a whopping 7 year long contract. I didn’t know any better AND didn’t do enough research on this company. I was simply enamored that someone wanted to publish my work. Well… 7 years and $7 was all it yielded. YEP, you read it right! 7 years, no responses after the work was done, what I now know was horrible editing and formatting, and a SEVEN DOLLAR royalty check!

BUT…I continued in the business but with another amazing company. My second book was published by Bridges & Channels Enterprises. This experience led me into my journey of becoming a publisher. It was a true divine God experience. The owner, Ms, Suprina Frazier taught me everything about publishing. Her insight, guidance, and integral handling of my second book opened up a new world to me and eventually a new business. The contract process and terms were much better. The royalty split was beneficial for me and her company.

With my third book, I begin self publishing but wanted my books associated with a publishing house. This is where Living With More Publications was born. It is now Living With More Enteprises because we house a full service publishing company, a magazine/newsletter layout division, a high-level kingdom leadership and development institute, and other business ventures that are in planning stages.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of new clients for my business has been word of mouth and referrals from current and former clients. Advertising isn’t my strong suit in business, but my clients have been my best advertisement. The continual referrals and strong feedback I’ve received have consistently brought new clients to my company. I also use social media to draw awareness to the business and services we offer.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I believe that it has been consistently providing excellent service and products to our clients. The continual positive feedback and reviews of our clients has helped to build our reputation and solidify us as a company of excellence in execution. We are also hands on with our clients, building trust with them and helping them to facilitate the unknown as it relates to publishing.
