We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Laticia Nicole Beatty recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Laticia Nicole , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
I have a non-profit that feeds the elderly and homeless community since 2012. I started this non profit at a time in my life that I needed help myself but was led to help help others and now over 10k families are being served throughout the U.S. I also opened a 120 bed Elderly assistant living facility. Where I house those that the community has thrown away due to their economic status. My business take Medicaid and Special assistance for those that need housing and nursing aid.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In 1992 I moved to NC from. Detroit Mi with $15 and 4 outfits to attend a college that had not yet accepted me. To later test to be placed in all remedial classes and labeled least likely to succeed. I tell you this because, I know how it feels to be cast out and talked about. I am now a author of 8 books, Motivation/ Inspiration speaker, a Minister, a wife of 24 years and a owner of an 120 bed assistance living facility. I learned at a young age that love can save people from what was meant to kill.
So, I have created products like detox teas and vitamin C, Ginger and Turmeric tabs. Planners and written a child book and women and girls help books to help them believe in themselves and to heal from past trauma and PTSD.
I have a heart to serve. I am known for speaking life into dead situations. I also preach, teach and speak on my prayer and bible study call and now on clubhouse. I’ve done this for the past 10 years to give back to those that need encouragement.
I am a witness that when you are called to greatness, no devil and hell can stop the plans for your life.
My name is Minister, Dr. Laticia Nicole Beatty RN, BSN, MBA, NHA

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I can share with you that I have not always felt like I was worthy to be the person that you are reading about in articles or the person you see showing up speaking at events around the country. I too have been broken and broke. Their was a time in my life that I had to close two of my businesses and work a fulltime job due to financial strain. During that time my children were young and my husband and I was separated. I thought it was the end of the world. It almost felt like it at times.
I can remember stressing about being alone, crying all the time due to having to close my stores. I wasn’t mentally handling my business’ and was not watching my products. I was losing money and my mind. At least I thought I was. I even thought about taking my life. One night at 2:36 a.m I pick up my 380 (my gun). I was walking back and forth repeating what the enemy was saying in my head. I was crying and trying to talk myself into pulling the trigger. I notice my cat Dora was running and jumping on the walls. I could concentrate on the voices in my head because my cat had clearly lost her mind. Dora the cat was chasing the laser of the gun. I didn’t notice that it was on on one. I snapped out of those horrible thought of suicide long enough to put the gun back in safety mode, play with Dora and then to put the gun up in my draw and fall asleep. The next morning Speak Life was birthed. I began to speak life into myself and later to the world.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn coping mechanisms that weren’t healthy for my mind, spirit, or body. I was a runner. Thought out my life, if something did not feel comfortable or safe i would run from it. I can remember my mom use to tell me to speak up for myself. Even in college i ran for Miss Freshman and I was so afraid of speaking I ran off the campus and hid in my friends apartment. I was supposed to be giving a speech of why they should vote for me to be Miss Freshman and I was to afraid to speak. Nevertheless, I won and was crowned Miss Freshman but running has not always worked in my favor. Some situations you need to face and fix. I’ve learned, “what you don’t deal with now, will deal with you later’.
Now, I teach women to face their issues instead of running away from them.
