Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Latasha Ramsey-Cyprian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Latasha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
I am so blessed and grateful to have had the parents that I did. My father is now deceased and he passed away when I was 27. He made a huge impact in my life during those 27 years. My parents are the epitome of love, hard work and grace. They raised me to be compassionate, humble, honest and to have good work ethics. One of the biggest reasons I am where I am today is because of them. My mother was a stay at home mom until my youngest brother started kindergarten. Once he started school she began working with my father in his landscaping business. She was a female in a male dominating industry and I never heard her complain about the hard work she did. Because of that, she taught me how to be resilient. Growing up, she was great with budgeting and saving money. Seeing the way she handled money responsibly impacted my life and my career and a Credit Strategist.
My father never received his school diploma and he stressed the importance of education to me from early childhood. He told me I could achieve any goal I set. He was transparent and told me that as a black woman, I would have to work hard and give 110% in everything that I did. He reminded me often that nothing in life would be given to me. I was inspired to go back to school and obtain an MBA because of my him. I was 39 when I graduated but I persevered because he always told me I could do anything I put my mind to do.
My parents showed me first hand how to be a parent by being present in my life.
My father did not have a relationship with his father and he did not want to repeat that cycle with my brothers and I. My father did his best to live a life that was pleasing to God. He was a man that led by example and he was a man of his words. I try my best to do what I tell someone I am going to do and I communicate with them if there are any delays or issues. I treat people the way I want to be treated because I saw first hand how well my parents treated others.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
