We recently connected with Dr. Krisshundria James and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Krisshundria , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
The most important thing I learned is always put God first. Seek God, pray and thank God daily and stay in The Word of God(The Bible)! I learned God will never leave you nor forsake you! In middle school and high school I learned to never give up and push yourself to greatness even when no one believes in you. I also learned that no matter what pain you experience in life, God loves you no matter what and you are fearfully and wonderfully made! No matter how much I was bullied about having a lazy eye (my right eye that is), the only quiet and shy one in class or even being too fat as the kids said, I still came to school with a positive mindset to push myself towards greatness. Was everyday perfect no, I had my down days where I felt like I wasn’t good enough or I wasn’t going to make it to graduation because I wanted to drop out because of being bullied, talked about or not fitting in.. I even looked in the mirror and thought I wasn’t pretty enough. I remember in middle school not wanting to come to school because I was being bullied about my weight and size and my lazy eye everyday.. On top of being bullied I was molested at the age of 12 and that broke me down even more. It broke my self-esteem and self-confidence and all the hope I had in me. Being bullied, teased and talked about daily only made me stronger! It pushed me to love myself more. It pushed me to learn who I was was. It pushed me to work harder in school because all I wanted to do was be done with school. It even pushed me into the strong, resilient, fearless, brave and smart young women I am now. I remember walking with my head down low, covering my eye with my hair, taking restroom breaks frequently to cry and crying in my room at night. I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone and no one understood me. It was painful for me, it was pressure for me and it is was even a testimony for me! After all that pain and going through all of the things I went through in school, I am now Dr. James. I graduated with my doctorate degree and I now encourage, inspire and motivate teen girls, young ladies and women. I made a vow to God, I would take what I have been through, learned, and experienced and help teen girls, young ladies and women who battle with their self-confidence and are feeling suicidal, see themselves the way God sees them and give them keys to effectively heal. This is why I forge teen girls, young ladies and women to Blossom Up and Bloom Where They Have Been Planted!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
All my life, I battled with being plus size, my self-confidence and self-esteem. I had people tell me I was not good enough, I was a nobody or I was too big to do things. I even got teased and bullied about having a lazy eye. The root of insecurity is found in the words of death, discouragement, and degradation that have been spoken over you. Proverbs 18:21, the Bible tells us that:
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” This scripture, then, tells us that the tongue has the ability to create, shape, and mold, either, life or death in those it speaks over; just like a hand.
All the hurtful words people said, the people that over looked me, the people that called me out of my name, the people that tried to break my self-confidence and self-esteem, I chose to cancel out those negative words over my life and remember I was fearfully and wonderfully made! I know who I am and whose I am! Throughout all the hurt and pain I still push to stay close to God and learn who I was according to Him. Through out that time it pushed me close to God and I spoke positive affirmations over myself. The negative words and people made me stronger and push me to grow and become a better version of myself.
I am now MS. Houston Plus America 2023 and I am running for MS. Texas Plus America.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot in my life after almost getting killed in my early 20’s. I thought everyone was like me with a big heart and nice like me. Well that’s no always true. You have to watch the people you surround yourself with and always know their motives behind being apart of your life. I use to always try to please people and I allows people to walk all over me. After hitting that major part of my life where I almost lost my life, that was a major wake up call for me and push me closer to God. I had to learn my identity in Christ (God) and understand God’s plan and purpose for my life. I had to seek God more than ever and allow Him to lead my heart, my mind and my soul. I kept looking at my life and blaming myself for it and it was not my fault at all. God’s grace and mercy is amazing and I love God for giving me it daily! I practically had to change my life around and heal and move past that moment in my life. That took time and patient with myself, so God could fully heal my hurt and push me into my destiny!
