We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Kennedy Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Kennedy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have been a lifelong advocate for women and girls and have made it my personal mission to create fierce female leaders that shatter ceilings and transform the world. Over my 25+ years of corporate leadership and philanthropic efforts in the community I noticed far too many times that some women have a hard time believing in themselves and or their capabilities, leadership development wasn’t prioritized for girls and organizations were riddled with landmines for women. These issues heavily contribute to various gender equity gaps we are experiencing in this country and I am tired of seeing women of all ages who personally and professionally undervalue and limit themselves, so I decided to do something about it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I describe myself as a woman with a profound love for people and God who truly lives life as if everyday and each breathe is a gift. I aim to uplift every person I come in contact with and anyone who talks with me will immediately learn that I believe every woman is a Queen and that helping them fiercely step into the life they are meant to live is my divine assignment.
I am an accomplished leader with over two decades of experience in organizational transformation, health policy, leadership development and strategic planning across Healthcare, Technology and Consulting industries. I hold degrees from Stanford University, Trinity and UC Davis, including a PhD in Organizational Behavior and in my current day job, I’m responsible for legislative policy execution and culture alignment at a $73 billion nonprofit organization that provides healthcare to millions nationwide.
Motivated by the purpose of wanting every woman to know she was born to reign, coupled with a desire to enable the transformation needed for them to shift into all they were created to be, I founded the brand and coaching platform; Spiritual Boss Chick. I am now internationally known as the “THE Spiritual Boss Chick and Queen of Transformation” a 7X pageant titleholder, highly sought after motivational speaker, brand creator and leadership coach that can be found on numerous stages, podcasts and television networks helping women and girls reach their full potential and fiercely crush opportunities beyond what they once thought possible in pageantry, life and business. Whether working with titleholders in the Miss Universe Organization, College Students, Entrepreneurs or C-Suite Executives, my personal mission to advance equity and create fierce female leaders that shatter ceilings and transform the world is prevalent in everything I touch. My expertise in shifting confidence, resilience, performance, leadership skills & mindsets, coupled with an innovative approach to utilizing human centered design has enabled countless women to overcome their greatest barriers to winning and reigning in life.
I am a dedicated philanthropist and advocate that has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the White House and honored by the State of California Senate for my commitment to service. I focus on advancing equity for disenfranchised, vulnerable and underserved populations by empowering women and girls through mentorship, promoting mental health access for college students, creating leadership opportunities for women, providing resources to the unhoused and funding scholarships for graduating high school seniors attending 4yr universities. I am a champion of change that continually looks for ways to expand my impact. In 2023 alone I launched 7 masterclasses, 2 group intensives, 5 workshops and my second app; REIGN by SBC, which is specifically designed to equip females to cultivate leadership capabilities from their fingertips.
What sets me, THE Spiritual Boss Chick, apart from others is beyond the obvious unique combination of education and experience that creates one of a kind solutions for women but rather my determination to make an impact by giving of myself so much that when my days have ended and I leave this earth I die empty!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am always thinking of platforms I use to share my message and eliminate ways people can transform their lives and businesses. Social Media has been an amazing tool for me to do this. I built an audience by engaging with people on a regular basis, whether through responding to every comment on a post or hosting lives to share information that will help someone step into their own greatness. I don’t post everyday like they say you’re supposed to because I think that is an unrealistic and frankly, unnecessary goal. Instead of focusing on quantity, I focus on quality. I’m intentional about what I share and the impact I want to make through each engagement. That is how my audience of over 8K was built.
The advice I would give to someone starting off now is; be authentic, show interest in the people that are following you through connecting with them regularly and by all means……provide value. These are the things that will get you where you want to be.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Initially the reputation I built for myself came from my personal and professional experience. 25+ years of corporate leadership combined with an Ivey League education gives you a little credibility in these entrepreneurial streets, lol, but you can’t rely on that forever. Over the last 10yrs, since starting Spiritual Boss Chick I have become extremely present and this has served as a catalyst to elevating my reputation! You can always find me speaking at events, doing media interviews, hosting workshops, being a guest on podcasts and showing up to support others who are working to advance themselves. Being the person that is on social media, talking about what you can do for everyone is one option and if that’s your thing, great but, I believe there is nothing more powerful in building your reputation than actually doing the work and letting your presence speak for itself. I continuously show up for myself, the women I work with and the community.
