We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Kalisa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Kalisa below.
Dr. Kalisa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
I love vacations. I take vacations as often as possible. I definitely commit to taking 1-2 out trips out the country per year. I also take time away to go on mini weekend trips. It’s imperative to take breaks from day to day business operations, no matter what field you’re in. Even if you’re a content creator. Take time away to enjoy moments without worrying about working. Your business will be there, time will not.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner of Queen Essentials Cosmetics, Nude Bell Haus Clothing, QETS virtual call center, and I’m a self-published author. I have a doctorate degree with a strong background in psychology, mental, and behavioral health. I started my cosmetics and clothing brand to help women build confidence with products that make them feel great inside and look great on the outside. I recently started my call center, off the need to help others work from home and create a life they love by making their own schedules while meeting client demands. I’m most proud of self-publishing 4 books. I wrote 2 children books called “The Cat and the Rat: A Story about Strangers” and “I AM HER: The ABC’s of Black Women in History.” Both books were written as a learning tool to educate children. I wrote 2 journals for women. “A Hustler’s Journal” is a goal oriented journal to help women who are wanting to become entrepreneurs. “Happy.Healing.Healthy: The Journal for Shadow Work” is to help women who are on their healing journeys. This journal gives prompts and affirmation to help heal inner child hood traumas and more. I center everything around how I can help the next person.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being able to create is being able to be yourself and people accepting your authenticity. Also, knowing that people can relate to your products and brand, which is reflective in your growing audience.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A lot of times we will create and brand and feel like we are stuck with what we created. A few times I had to pivot in terms of recreating my brand. From new logos, new name, appealing to a new audience, etc. For example, with my clothing brand, I started with a name that was more personal to me. I wanted to have something reflective of me; however, it wasn’t what I envisioned. The beginning of this year, I rebranded into something more appealing to my audience and it’s been working well. Never think you have to settle with your initial brand. Even in your career or personal life. Do what works for you and what feels good for you.
