We recently connected with Dr. K and have shared our conversation below.
Dr., appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
It was 2016. We already were producing a village at high times called “Vader village” under the name “the conglomerate”.
We had crated brands like: “Paris Og, Vader Extracts, Loudpack, King Pen with the team together.
It was a Sunday and people were tired of paying to get into an event and getting nothing in return but high prices.
So I looked at my partner the Medicated Barbie and we decided then and there we were gonna do a FREE event for the people. We did not know yet what we were going to call the event. But we knew we were going to create one.
After that in 2016 we started “KUSHSTOCK”.
Our first event I didn’t trying more then 3 people would show up.
But over 3,000 people came.
Then eventually 60,000+.
We are now in Adelanto California in 2024. Helping build a city that needs all the help it can get to give people hope and opportunity.
Working directly with the city, county and state we are the 3rd licensed event coordinators in the state of California and price on a FREE event “By the people, For the people” called KUSHSTOCK.
Dr., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Dr. K here. My father got my into this business. He was a grower and smuggler who lived in AZ, NE, Amsterdam and Jamaica.
In Nebraska marijuana is not looked at as medicine but more as heroin because they are so stuck in the good book and military they cant seem to pull their heads out their butts.
So forced into court rooms and half way houses. I realized I needed to leave ASAP.
While being with my father in amsterdam I met a man named curly who bought what he called a “golden ticket” in San Francisco he said, which won him to flight to amsterdam.
I repeatedly asked him how and where.
Until I was on the next flight to Los Angeles.
My first job in the industry was to help build a business call THC with Pete and Josh S. Now “Natura life science”. For 4 to 5 years.
Then went to work a hydroponic store call “no stress hydro” for 5 to 6 years.
Then starting a retail cannabis store in the valley call WCC.
Then Vader extracts, Paris OG Kush, King Pen, loudpack at the height of the marketing/sales career in cannabis.
National brands.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Face to face.
If there was a real face to cannabis I really believe I would be one of them.
A real person from humble beginnings who is here to people.
Put the people first.
It doesn’t have to be the best or cheapest just needs to be for the people.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we went from sales to events. We seen that providing a space for people to come to get our products is what direction we wanted to go. Get directly to the consumers.
