We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Julio Reis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dr. Julio thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
The defining moment in my chiropractic carer was when I went on a chiropractic mission trip to El Salvador. During chiropractic school we are constantly being challenged academically. Day in and day out we are tested and held to the highest standard of medical knowledge and chiropractic skill. Performing academically and delivering a chiropractic adjustment are two completely different things. Our ability to deliver an adjustment that changes the entire function of someone’s nervous system defines who you are as a chiropractor. It’s the main reason why we go through the sacrifice of getting through four years of a doctorate degree and four years of undergrad school. The trip to El Salvador was the first opportunity outside of chiropractic school to apply everything I learned. I was faced with many challenges during the trip both physically and mentally. The trip took place during the summer and the weather was extremely hot. At times we had hundreds of people waiting in line to receive a chiropractic adjustment. Many were in pain without any access to medical care, and many were also children. I found that throughout all the physical and emotional demands of the trip I was able to have fun and enjoy the process while adjusting children. Kids have such a unique way of shifting your energy and remind you to stay present. In my practice now I see people of all ages including babies and kids. I absolutely love being a chiropractor and love running a wellness practice.

Dr. Julio , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My background before becoming a chiropractor was in sports medicine. I worked as an athletic trainer doing prevention and care of athletic injuries. I also worked as a certified strength and conditioning specialist in charged of sports performance. I was able to bring 12 years in the field of human performance into chiropractic school. I was able to apply my previous knowledge along with everything I learned in chiropractic school in order to have a truly wholistic approach to improving health and wellness. I can help with many different conditions however the main underlaying condition that produces symptoms such as pain, digestive issues, and sleeping issues, is stress. The environment in my practice is very calming and welcoming. Clients are able to forget about their stressful lives and relax while being adjusted. Our main focus is to help the body dissipate tension throughout the chiropractic adjustment, breath work and movement.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I believe being a chiropractor has always been part of my live’s journey. I would not change anything about what I went through to become a chiropractor and certainly would not pick any other profession.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I have always stayed centered and focused on helping people first, and being a business owner second. This has been my number one strategy in achieving a referral based practice.
