Dr. Jennifer Heyward , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

I am extremely happy as a business owner. I just celebrated 18 years as an entrepreneur. But there are times when I’m overly exhausted with the day to day running of 5 businesses.

I received my DBA in Business and decided to become an online professor. I felt I needed a change in business scenary.

Being an entrepreneur and having a steady flowing of clients can be hard. I pretty much do all the logistics and strategies for my business. I take on so much energy that I sometimes need a recharge for myself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I got into the entertainment industry back in 2002. I worked as a promoter for a few radio stations. As social media grew (Myspace) I was able to expand my brand and network within my industry.

I’m most proud of the connections I’ve made in my field.

My clients call me “the plug of PR”. I solve every problem from scheduling to crisis management.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One major lesson I had to unlearn was watering down my prices to fit my client’s needs.

When I first started my packages were under 350.00 which required me to do the work of 10 people. I had been under the impression that I had to lower my rates in order to get clients.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I started my first business at age 20. I only had $100.00 to my name. In 6 months I made a profit of 50k. I have a wealth management company that I work with. I’ve never had debt nor been in debt with my businesses. Recently I’ve started using my business credit cards to fund my business when needed.
