We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Jeffrey G. Lind II. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Jeffrey G. below.
Dr. Jeffrey G., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
It all started a few months before completing my plastic surgery fellowship, when I made the decision to move to Texas. I did this not only for the professional opportunities that establishing my own practice here represented, but also to be closer to some of our family. Houston is known internationally as the home of one of the best medical communities in the world and I knew that I wanted my practice to form an integral part of that landscape. Having realized that Houston would be the place in which I would put down (both personal and professional) roots in meant taking into serious consideration the very relevant factor of: location, location, location. I chose to relocate to The Woodlands for it is a gorgeous evergreen place that reminds me of South Carolina, where I grew up. When I first moved here, back in 2015, I opened a smaller practice in Market Street. As the demand for my services grew, I knew The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery would need an expansion and so, in 2020 we unveiled our newly constructed building. It is a state-of-the-art 8,563 square foot, single story facility with two AAAASF certified operating rooms, dedicated pre-op and PACU recovery areas, several exam rooms, and two med spa rooms, located in the heart of Houston. It is a perfect distance between the Interstate 610 “inner-loop” and The Woodlands, with easy access from I-45, Grand Parkway 99, and the Hardy Toll Road. My professional journey has so far been filled with the enjoyment I get from improving positively the way my patients feel and see themselves. There is nothing I would have done differently.
My advice to a young professional considering starting their own practice would be to make sure they understand this isn’t just a career, it is a passion and a life commitment. It is a path in which the first steps take many years of academic dedication and training. I started in general surgery and had the opportunity to rotate through different specialties. Drawn to the vast opportunities within the field of plastic surgery – from reconstructive procedures, hand surgery, cosmetic surgery, bones, skin, to blood vessels – I realized I mostly enjoyed the expansive nature of plastic surgery and so I narrowed my focus on it. That is how I ended up becoming a double-board certified plastic surgeon. It is highly important to note that in order to be a fully credentialed plastic surgeon one must become board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Five of my eight years of training were focused in general surgery at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, which is consistently considered as one of the “Top 100 Hospitals” and also ranked among the “Top 15 teaching hospitals”. After that, I underwent and completed a three-year plastic surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in Florida. During this training, I was awarded the Cleveland Clinic Florida Caregiver Celebrations Appreciation Award for providing outstanding patient care, and I was also the twice recipient of the J. Brian Boyd Academic Achievement Award for academic excellence. Having the desire to create an inviting and luxurious accredited surgical facility, I founded The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery (LIPS). LIPS fully equipped operating rooms, recovery center, medical grade skincare, makeup boutique, and abundant on-site parking, create an inviting and comfortable oasis for our local, national, and international patients; out-of-town and residents alike love the exclusive environment, high-end setting, superb service, and outstanding results we achieve in our free-standing facility.
At LIPS, my highly specialized team of certified registered nurse practicians, medical aestheticians, and I employ the latest technology with the highest standards of safety and effectiveness. We offer surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures; with a holistic approach to covering a patient’s every need, our surgical services include: liposuction, high-definition liposuction, Brazilian butt lift, tummy tuck, high-definition tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck, fat transfer, mommy makeover, scar revision, breast augmentation, breast lift, breast implants + lift, breast reduction, breast revision, and gynecomastia surgery. And, amongst our med spa services can be listed: injectables, lasers & light-based skin treatments, skin rejuvenation, LPG Endermologie, Cliovana for female sexual enhancement, and many others.
Plastic surgery is viewed as an art form in the medical world, I am mostly proud of the positive impact we have in our patient’s lives. Cosmetic surgery can not only give a boost to someone’s self-esteem and confidence, it can also help benefit their overall mental health. It is not unusual for patients to take charge of their life in a whole new way due to how great they feel. For example, patients seeking body contouring, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck, may find it is easier to keep the weight down after their plastic surgery. The positive results of the procedure can really motivate the person to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program to keep their weight/body fat in check. And, in most cases a healthy weight leads to a healthier body and reduced risk for some types of diseases.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Having integrity, compassion, a commitment to excellence, humility, creativity, scientific curiosity, dedication, being empathetic, having great bedside manner, never neglecting post operative care, and understanding that all plastic surgery should be personalized to each patient’s specific goals.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Delivering amazing results while providing top notch attentive service and therefore having happy and fully satisfied patients.
