We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Jasmine Leigh Morse . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Jasmine below.
Dr. Jasmine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Surprisingly enough, when I was in middle school, I knew I wanted to be a creative writer. I read lots of books and wrote poetry on occasion. I also found solace in expressing my creativity through dance and other art forms like drama. I thrived in creative spaces because that’s where I felt the most freedom of heart, mind, and expression. From that point on, everything I did was in service of feeding my need to spark and engage my creative mind.
I really started perfecting my craft as a creative writer, during my undergraduate school days at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. I majored in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, where I studied the art of writing poetry, short stories, plays, and so much more.
I’m now able to use every opportunity available to me in my career to fuse my creativity into my educational, corporate, and entrepreneurial endeavors. And, I’m so grateful that I’ve become known for my innovative and creative ability to offer fresh perspectives, develop insightful content, and engage audiences through public speaking.
So, naturally . . . through my business, JLM Global Consulting, a boutique communication firm, I help my clients unpack visionary ideas, assess challenges, and provide the framework and training for persuasive, purposeful, and powerful written and verbal communication.
As an extension of my business, I founded Girl Go Global, where I’m able to empower and inspire women through my books, blog, and podcast, all of which first cultivated in my youth.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
As I shared, I lead a communications firm and our mission is simple. We aim to provide the formula for strategic messaging and content development. My team and I are proud to serve other business owners, industry leaders, public figures, and authors, with the aim of helping them level up in their communications through consulting, coaching, and training.
Girl Go Global is my community for women. I simply aim to empower women to join their faith + their works, in order to live the courageous life for which God created them. And, right now, I’m using my podcast, books, and blog to make those connections.
Through the Girl Go Global Podcast, each week, I’m proud to share engaging and practical conversations that I have with other women who are doing great things in their respective industries. My podcast is for the woman who is ready to reach the calling she feels from within, step into her power, and fulfill her true destiny and purpose in life. These conversations offer me many opportunities to dabble in media and refine my interview skills. My latest books, “Heart Rhythm: Surviving Singleness with Faith, Know-How, & Grit” and “Heart Rhythms: A Guided Journal for Thriving in Singleness,” are designed to inspire and encourage single women with my story. If people want to connect with me even more, my monthly Girl Go Global Blog is just another way for everyone to stay connected and inspired.
Through JLM Global Consulting and Girl Go Global, it’s my mission to help people go global. Whether I’m providing the communications formula to assist business owners with making a global impact or supporting women with stepping into their power and fulfilling their true destiny and purpose in life, my goal is to show up authentically using my best skills and resources to serve my clients and women.
Overall, my faith in God drives my mission and purpose in life. My personal mission involves using my skills and talents to equip, train, and meet the needs of others. Without my faith, I wouldn’t be able to fulfill my own purpose and passions in life. That’s why, I believe I’ve been able to use my creativity as a springboard for everything I’ve accomplished to date.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’m the first to admit that my journey hasn’t been easy. It was filled with many long days, nights, and even some tears to be perfectly honest. To some, I may have made it look easy, but it certainly wasn’t easy to navigate a doctoral program at Morgan State, while working full time. It wasn’t always easy to navigate new positions and teams throughout my 18+ year career in government. It also wasn’t easy to make sense of myself and my career goals with so much on my plate. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, I wrote and published my first book, “Heart Rhythm: Surviving Singleness with Faith, Know-How, & Grit.”
Because of my faith, I’ve managed to find my true direction, during some of my most challenging struggles. Overall, I have to say that all of my experiences have led me to this point, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life right now at this very moment.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of what I do is the positive feedback I receive from clients I’ve supported, those who listen to my podcast, or read my books or blog. Their feedback keeps me focused and gives me comfort in knowing that I am doing exactly what I need to be doing each and every day.
