We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Jasmine Blunt, Dnp, Fnp-bc, Pmhnp-bc recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Jasmine , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear stories from your time in school/training/etc.
Hi! I’m Dr. Jasmine Blunt, also known as “Dr. J.” I’m a Dual Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I serve as Director of Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser, an Aesthetic Medicine practice in Towson, Maryland. My time at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, where I earned my Doctorate of Nursing Practice was both challenging and rewarding. The program provided a solid foundation in evidence-based practice and advanced clinical care, preparing me to excel in various specialties. But the journey didn’t end there—when I decided to pursue Aesthetic Medicine, it felt like stepping into a whole new world.
I vividly remember my first hands-on training session in injectables. Despite years of clinical experience, I found myself feeling like a beginner again, learning the intricacies of facial anatomy, techniques for precision, and the artistry required to achieve natural, beautiful results. It was humbling to go from a position of confidence in my expertise to being a student once more, asking questions and making sure every step I took was intentional. I leaned into the learning process, reminded of the same principles I practiced at Hopkins: embrace the challenge, stay curious, and always put the patient’s needs first.
One moment that stands out was working with my first patient in aesthetics. She came in feeling self-conscious, and I could see how much courage it took for her to trust me. After the treatment, the look of joy and renewed confidence on her face was unforgettable. It reminded me of why I pursued healthcare in the first place—helping people feel like the best version of themselves, inside and out.
So, I say to anyone who is considering a fresh, new change in their life—whether it’s a new career path, learning a skill, or stepping into the unknown—give yourself grace. It’s okay to feel uncertain or even like a beginner again. Embrace the process, stay committed, and trust that it all works out in the end!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I have a passion for helping people feel like the best version of themselves. My journey into healthcare started with a deep desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, and over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of clinical settings. After earning my Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Johns Hopkins University, I expanded my expertise into the exciting and rapidly growing field of Aesthetic Medicine.
At Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser, my goal is to empower clients to feel confident, beautiful, and cared for. We provide a range of services, including advanced aesthetic treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation therapies, laser treatments, and non-invasive body contouring. What sets me apart is the holistic approach I take with every client. I don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” solutions. Instead, I work closely with each person to understand their unique needs, goals, and concerns. Whether it’s enhancing natural beauty through aesthetic treatments or helping someone regain confidence after a difficult time, my focus is always on delivering exceptional, personalized care.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me. Seeing someone walk out of my office with renewed confidence, a smile on their face, or relief from their worries reminds me every day why I chose this career. If there’s one thing I’d want potential clients or followers to know, it’s that Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser is more than just a place for treatments—it’s a space where you’re valued, respected, and supported on your journey toward self-care and confidence. My work is about helping you shine, whether it’s through physical transformation, mental wellness, or both. I’m here to guide and partner with you every step of the way.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my brand! I look forward to being a part of your self-care journey.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
First and foremost is having a strong relationship with God. I firmly believe that He knows exactly what He wants to do with you and your business, and it will all come to fruition in His perfect timing. Leaning on faith during moments of uncertainty has been a cornerstone of my journey. Trusting in God’s plan allows me to focus on the work at hand, knowing that He is guiding my steps and opening doors in His time.
Discipline is another essential factor. It’s not enough to simply know your craft—you must commit to continually bettering it, even when the results don’t come as quickly as you’d like or when challenges arise. There will be moments when it feels like things aren’t working out, but success comes from pressing forward, believing in yourself, and staying focused on your goals. That persistence is what transforms challenges into opportunities for growth.
Consistency is equally important. Whether you’re treating one client or hundreds, the level of care and attention you deliver should never change. Each person deserves to feel valued and supported, and that commitment to excellence builds trust and loyalty over time.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the ability to make people feel seen and cared for. At the end of the day, people may forget the specifics of a treatment or service, but they will always remember how you made them feel. Whether it’s through a warm smile, active listening, or going the extra mile to meet their needs, the connection you build with your clients is what truly sets you apart in this industry.
Success in this field is about more than just technical skill—it’s about heart, faith, resilience, and a commitment to making a positive impact on every person you encounter. When you bring those qualities to your work, everything else will fall into place.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Whew! This is such a GOOD question! One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the fear of failure. For a long time, I believed that failure was something to avoid at all costs, as if it was the opposite of success. But I’ve come to realize that failure is often the foundation of success—it’s where the REAL learning happens. Every business, every project, every new venture is a “failure” in the beginning, because nothing is perfect or successful without time, effort, and growth.
This mindset shift didn’t come easily. When I stepped out on faith to serve as Director at Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser, I felt the weight of trying to get everything right on the first try. I wanted every decision to be perfect, and any setback felt like a confirmation of my worst fears. But over time, I began to see those “failures” differently. They weren’t roadblocks—they were stepping stones. Each challenge taught me something invaluable, whether it was about refining my processes, better understanding my clients’ needs, or simply learning how to trust myself.
Unlearning the fear of failure has allowed me to truly appreciate the growth that comes with the journey. It’s helped me embrace the process of building something meaningful, even when the path isn’t straightforward. Now, I see every challenge as an opportunity to improve and every setback as a chance to get closer to the goal. Most importantly, this shift in perspective has made me more resilient and more grateful. It’s given me the confidence to take risks, bet on myself, and trust that success isn’t about avoiding failure—it’s about learning, adapting, and staying committed to the bigger picture.
For anyone afraid of failing, I’d say this: don’t let the fear hold you back. It’s not the failures that define you—it’s how you rise from them and what you learn along the way.
