We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Gwennetta Wright a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dr. Gwennetta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
One of my customer success stories is when I had to assist a client in a business tax audit due to the IRS rejecting their business income. The IRS had ruled that my client had to pay them back like 14k from rejecting tax credits that were tied to their business income and expenses. I had to work with my client on this audit for a year and a half because all documents we were submitting to the IRS they would reject and leave the client with a balance due.
I prepared my client to attend tax court so that we could provide evidence and documents to the IRS to show why they shouldn’t owe the balance that they were trying to require them to pay back. Going to tax court was a risk because the IRS could have ruled that they still owed the balance. This is one of my favorite success stories because my client ended up not owing them anything, plus the IRS had to refund them a check from when they had took their whole tax refund the year prior. I was able to win this case because of my knowledge of the tax law and from all the research plus preparation I did prior to presenting my argument.
In most cases taxpayers will assume that it is nothing they can do if the IRS says they owe money but when you know your rights and the law then you come on top with a victory every time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The thing that helped me build my reputation in my market is being authentically me and providing education to my audience. Most tax companies do the same thing when it comes to marketing that it becomes hard to stand out from others. About 5 years ago I started going Live on Facebook during tax season once a week on my business page to discuss different tax credits, deductions and just talk about whatever was going on during tax season at the time. I did this consistently for 5 years and after each year my audience started to grow more and more because people was not use to anyone revealing so much about doing taxes. The education I was providing was drawing my audience to me that I started to get more and more clients in different states all over the US. I build a reputation for my company that showed that we were trustworthy, reliable and that we were a company that serves our clients.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
On any journey as an entrepreneur you will have near death moments but the one that stands out to me is when I had to let go of one of my contractors who brought in six figures of my over all revenue. When you talk about a near death moment that is one that would make you hold your breath. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life because it was at the very beginning of the year at the time that we make the most revenue. I had to let her go and I still had all the same bills. I honestly didn’t know if I would fail or if I would have to make any drastic changes in my business. I look at it as a moment that God wanted me to shift in my business. He wanted me to have complete faith in him so he can show me that he is my ultimate financial source. I had to do a complete reset on my business and think outside of the box to make sure that we survived. During that moment I had to make alot of sacrifices in my business like not being able to spend as much money on marketing, staff and other things but the Great thing about it we survived. I can happily say that we have exceeded that revenue that I was making when I let her go and that we are track for continued growth.
