Dr. Gretchen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Around 15 years ago, I was preparing to launch my publishing company and after developing my web presence via social media platforms and my website, I was ready to begin soliciting my company’s first client. I ran a discounted rate campaign for over two months with many potential clients requesting services. However, no guarantee leads committed, until one day I decided to set my prices at my worth and my first client committed with a sign contract. The client was publishing their first book, a children’s book, and they were determined to get it in print. This experience was also special for me because I was able to fine-tune my web presence based on the client’s questions, provide adequate and efficient customer service which set the notion of my business 15 years later and provide quality service to the client. Unbeknownst to me, this client became a repeated customer for years to come.

Her story is real and will capture the hearts of many. Dr. Torbert is the Founder
and CEO of Teachers Across the World, which houses over 100 chapters including
the local chapter of Teachers of Atlanta that was developed to inspire and
celebrate educators. Dr. Torbert uses the platform of Teachers Across the
World to constantly seek great pioneers that have impacted the world of education
including innovators, entrepreneurs, dreamers, visionaries and change agents. As
she seeks out these individuals, she engages in personal development opportunities
through literature, circumstances and positions. She has creatively overcome
several challenges by zoning into her dreams and walking in her purpose. Her
intention is to inspire and help others find their purpose. As a humanitarian and

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe in consistency and being persistent in my endeavors. I love showcasing the amazing things that my companies are doing in the community. I also believe in giving back and providing excellent customer service. Throughout the year, we sponsor organizations, provide services for free and give items to support the companies health and presence in the community as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
By switching my focus, I was able to increase profits and lower my overhead cost. Being flexible and receptive to what the data is showing you is crucial to the success of your small business. No matter how thoroughly you plan and how well you stick to that plan, sometimes you’ll need to make adjustments. But if you stay flexible, your changes might pay off in major ways. I begin to focus on customer needs and desires, versus making my own desires and expectations of my companies the priority. This lesson that I have unlearned has made my businesses unique, customary and specifically designed to meet each customer’s needs accordingly.
