Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Gabrielle F. Morris, MD. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Morris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When you’ve been a professional in an industry for long enough, you’ll experience moments when the entire field takes a U-Turn, an instance where the consensus completely flips upside down or where the “best practices” completely change. If you’ve experienced such a U-Turn over the course of your professional career, we’d love to hear about it.
From a medical perspective – I want people to know that cannabis is real medicine! There are so many options across the THC spectrum, from strain, to potency and forms of administration, it gives patients real options to start low and figure out what works best for them. They are not locked into one or two specific types of traditional medications and their side effects. We want to educate our patients about all the ways they can alleviate their symptoms with the various options cannabis offers. They can take tinctures or topicals for daytime use, or edibles or a vaporizer for evening or acute use, all with different and understood results when purchased from a medical marijuana dispensary under the guidance of their physician. Many patients are anxious or do not know how to get started on their medical marijuana journey. We have built a concierge-style customer service support team who understand the ins and outs of each state program where we operate and strive to provide an unparalleled customer experience. We want our patients to know they are not alone at any step in their journey and that this treatment option can be a real start to healing better.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Background: I am the Chief Medical Officer of Duber Medical. I’m a first generation American, with parents who immigrated from Hungary. I have more than 30 years of medical experience, and my educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from West Virginia University and Doctorate of Medicine from Marshall University. I’m a Board Certified Neurological Surgeon. My specialties include Neurological Surgery, Trauma, Complex Orthopedic Spinal Surgery, and Emergency Medicine, and now medical marijuana! I have always been a long-time proponent of medical marijuana and was an early supporter of California’s Proposition 215, which first legalized medical marijuana treatment for patients in 1996 was during my time as the Senior Neurological Surgery Resident at a regional trauma center. I truly believe that medical marijuana is a viable and beneficial treatment option for many patients who seek to improve their quality of life through cannabis.
Biggest Myth about Medical Marijuana:
That people with a cannabis card are just looking to get high! That could not be further from the truth for patients seeking relief! While that can be an added benefit for those who suffer from symptoms like anxiety, depression or chronic pain, that is not our customer base’s primary focus or intent. They are patients coming to us just like they would any other doctor, hoping to find a medical treatment option that will actually help, without a myriad of side effects like traditional medication often comes with.
Duber Background:
Duber Medical is an experienced, 5-star rated leader in medical marijuana doctor consultations with a mission to educate patients on the medical benefits of cannabis. Duber Medical is a physician and woman-owned practice that works with a diverse population of more than 10,000 patients across 11 states, gaining first-hand knowledge of the clinical benefits of medical marijuana! We are patient-focused and our knowledgeable doctors provide every patient with a custom treatment plan so they can begin their journey to healing better, naturally.
What sets us apart:
Our doctors are experts in cannabis. We have put together a training program to teach and guide our practitioners so that they may provide each patient with a custom treatment plan. We also ensure we provide plenty of time both during the consultation and afterward, so that patients can ask questions, learn and feel supported to making more informed decisions
As noted above, we pride ourselves in learning the process of applying for and receiving a medical cannabis license. Our staff is trained to expect and be knowledgeable.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I love being a physician and now as a cannabis focused physician, I’m seeing the results of a medical treatment option that I’ve believed in for a very long time!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being there for our patients every step of the way! As noted above, we pride ourselves in learning the process of applying for and receiving a medical cannabis license. Our staff is trained to expect and be knowledgeable in each process so that patients do not have to go “hunting” for information or the right way to get through the process. They never end up getting their medical license because they are frustrated or have no support and answers on how to navigate the process. We hate to see people turn away from this treatment option because of a lack of understanding and support along the way!
